If you line up the dots, take the chain and cam sprocket off, don't move the crank at all, and then reverse the process when you put the cam back in, then you should be back where you started.

IHMO, borrow/buy a dial indicator and a degree wheel, and measure it yourself to find out the general cam timing and lifts. Then reverse engineer to the cam.
