Well took longer than I would have like but I got the old switch out and can't seem to get the new one in. any suggestions.

70 plymouth Duster console shift. I got the tumbler in need to change the ignition switch can't get the middle plate off to get to the switch I am lost!

Assuming you have the turn signal switch out of the column, there are three phillip head screws to remove plus a snap ring on the shaft. The upper bearing is just below the snap ring.

Once those are removed the upper section can slide off the shaft. However, it is a slight press fit (bearing is pressed over splines) so it may not just slide off - especially if it's never been off. You may get lucky wiggling it off. Some people pry it loose with screwdrivers between the sections - but I wouldn't. The proper way is to press the shaft out. I made a tool that mimics the factory tool...

Once the upper section is off you have to remove the lock plate: Remove the snap ring, pry a retainer off, drive out the roll pin. The plate will now slide off exposing the switch.

So a 70 Duster console shift would have the key in the column? I thought that started in 72.

Thank you that bearing came out being patient and using two screw drivers. Do I just pull on the ignition switch wires to get enough slack to remove it?

Unplug the connector under the dash, bend the wires so the connector is running lengthwise up the column, and pull everything out the top through the passages.
