I put a 4 speed in my 68 Barracuda and a 8 3/4 rear ,got a drive shaft out of a 74 dart manual transmission and it seems like the input shaft goes in too far. Looks like it goes in an inch and a half further than the original wear mark. Should it work or are they longer on the later A bodies?

Some yokes are longer than others. How far is it in the trans? Does it bottom out if you jack the rear end up to where most of the weight is supported by the jack?

without knowing the original drive train your car had, the length of the original shaft, and exactly which transmission you put in it, nobody can answer the question accurately.

For proper driveshaft length support the car on the wheels (suspension loaded). Unbolt the rear u joint straps. Push the slip youke into the transmission by hand, all the way. The rear u joint should be 1" from its seat. It it more than 1 inch your shaft is too short. Less than 1 inch and it is too long.

let's say your car had a 7-1/4 rear in it to start...with a 904 or 833 it would have had a driveshaft 51.43 inches long. now you're running an 8-3/4 rear, you'll a need a driveshaft that is 48.60. NOW, this is according to my gathered information over the years. if you measure the overall length of both your transmissions, they should be the same. the only real change was the rear end.

Just a thought.. the dart has a 111" wheelbase, your cuda will be a 108"
