engine 225, I removed the engine just to reseal due to prev owner installing a rebuilt engine
and did not know how to install pan, v/cover without blue silicone all over and still leaking.
after looking at the rods i see the oil squirt holes facing away from camshaft. I assume this
is incorrect. just looking for confirmation.

My 63 service manual say oil holes towards left side of engine on a slant six.

that''s a great question. If it were a V8, yes. But a slant, I don't know. I can see why it would face away from cam, for oiling "upper" cylinder wall, but I don't know. If it is in the manual, then it must be so.

They should point towards Driverside or up depending if hydraulic or not

It does seem to contradict itself. I can think of 2 things. Send oil to cam lobes or the other way to get oil to cylinders? Great odds 50/50 better then Vegas. I guess I need to read some more. If any one has any more info I'm willing to listen.

I must be stoopid. The reference seemed to contradict itself

No, it doesn't. This is simple:
All 1960-1962 iron engines, plus 1961-1963 aluminum engines: Connecting rods installed so that the squirt holes face away from the camshaft.

All 1963-up engines, except '63 aluminum blocks: Connecting rods installed so that the squirt holes face towards the camshaft.

slantsixdan is correct AGAIN, you are always full of backed up information, I found in 1972 FSM oil slot to right side of engine (facing camshaft).
Thanks for all the info to all who responded. for all who responded correct they get a star on their forehead.

Just checked my 73 slant 6 connecting rods on my original never disassembled engine - the oil squirt holes are pointing towards the cam shaft. I'm in the process of taking it to a rebuilder. I will talk with them to make sure they know the correct direction of the oil holes, we shouldn't take it for granted that they possess this knowledge.
The small slots on top of the pistons all face forward. Is this just another indicator that is used to insure the connection rods are installed in the correct direction or do these slots serve another purpose?

The piston pin bore is offset slightly so you don't get piston slap before the pistons warm up. The notch is for reference of which way to install the pistons on the conrods.

Thank you slantsixdan, I will pass this info to my rebuilder next week. I'm hoping his response will be that he is aware of this.
