Tried searching this, and kept getting a chevy thread. What is the size of the 904 trans cooler line fittings on the tranny, the ones the cooler lines attach too. I know the lines are 5/16, but what are the threads that go in the tranny,???.

Thanks barracudadave67

I just checked the tranny on my workbench. It's 1/2 inch thread, on the brass fitting that the line connects to.

Oh, I just realized, you probably want the thread size of the hole in the tranny case -- I gave the size of the fitting on the end of the cooler line. Let me go check that for you.

Don't know the size right off hand; it's pipe thread going into the transmission and flared tube to the line. Same at the cooler in the radiator.

The end of the fitting that goes into the tranny case seems to be pipe thread. I don't have a reference for sizes of NPT, but it mikes out at about 0.397 inch. Smaller than a 7/16 bolt, but larger than a 3/8. Hope that helps. Usually, a hardware store will have a sample card you can compare sizes to.

Thanks for measureing. That tells me it must be 1/8 NPT fitting comming out to both lines. Yes we Have a good HD store here, but its fading fast as all the big box stores are moving in all around.
I am going to try and find a couple fittings for 5/16th line, and 1/8th NPT that are one inch longer than the ones in the trans. I am going to make custom new hard lines, running out to the frame rail, then front to the cooler, in front of the rad. I have an aluminum rad with no cooler in it, mine is mounted in front, on home made brackets.
Thanks guys.

The fittings are known as SAE flare, and are 45* and if you've heard of AN fittings SAE is different. The trans side is pipe thread, as mentioned, 1/8 pipe is about 3/8 OD, 1/4" is quite larger nearly 1/2 OD

So you need an adapter. ANY real parts store should have these, like this......ignore the size it's just for illustration

There used to be several old school companies that list these, weatherhead and Edelmann are two You can download catalogs on the www , and here's one now

http://www.plews-edelmann.com/assets/1/7/automotivefittings_90078.pdf

See page 10 of the above, they are calling this a "male connector." Notice that this gives you not only the Edelmann part no. but Everco and Weatherhead AS WELL!!

Notice that just like AN the size is in 16th of an inch, AKA 5/16 tube is "no 5" and 1/8 pipe is "no 2" So one of these 5/16 flare x 1/8 pipe (ex) is

148520 Edelmann, 48D Everco, and 48x5 Weatherhead.

I got extremely tired of trying to make those metal on metal connections leak-free, so I ordered a couple Russell 1/8 to 5/16 n i p p l e fittings from Summit, used a couple short sections of cooler line between the flared end of the steel lines and the new fittings, secured with fuel injection clamps and it's 100 percent leak free now. The part # for the fittings is RUS-697010 $4.97 retail. I've seen some locally but they are a barb and not a n i p p l e.

It seemed all the general two ended hardline is set with male ends un-like the picture in post #8 depicting the double male that goes in and comes out of the transmission. I changed the fittings going into the transmission to male going in and female compression coming out to accept the general $4 double male general hardline sold at any parts store. Made my hardlines in minutes with a little $5 hand bending tool from the same parts store - no leaks....
