'72 Dodge Dart Swinger #'s matching 318 factory intake with Edelbrock 4 bbl (sorry, not sure specific model number, I did not install). Using a MOPAR 340 4 bbl air cleaner.

Cold start, first start of the day, two pumps, starts right up. Runs great. Run for 20+ minutes, shut it off, acts like it's flooded, lots of cranking, hold foot to floor, finally starts. This happens every time.

We've cleaned, adjusted, thought it was fuel leaking back in. Nothing helps.

I've searched the web and seen everything from insulating fuel lines to hardwood gaskets to 1" plastic spacers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the old heat crossover's in the middle of your heads on either side of the carb?
If so, change to a gasket that blocks them off. This reduces the heat at the carb. by more than 100 degrees and add a phenalic block under the carb.

Mine did the same thing until I did what I mentioned too you when using an Edy carb. you get fuel boil. It is overheated fuel due to the design of the carb. the bowls are directly on top of the intake and that super heats the fuel. A phenalic block under the carb. helps but you MUST block off the old cast iron head heat vents. They are the oval shaped ports in the middle of the heads on either side facing the carb.

Edelbrock 9265 or 9266.
Helps cool the fuel alot. I run them on all my cars with Eddys.

Block off those heat ports on the heads for sure then. Fell-pro makes intake gaskets that are taller so they are blocked off. It will make all the difference in the world.

Thank you very much. I had to leave the garage but sent everything to a friend who is helping me out. Will keep everyone updated.
