Well Pete Rose is still waiting. But guess who just got inducted.

I lived in Cincinnati for 7 years (east side near Batavia) and regardless of who or what Pete was as a person, he was an amazing ball player and absolutely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. It's just a giant pissing match that he isn't. Ok, he bet on Baseball, so what? He never threw a game or worked to change the outcome of a game so he could win a bet. It's complete BS that they are keeping him out.
Near Batavia? I carried mail in Williamsburg and Batavia.
The 1st time I met Pete Rose, I was a kid (maybe 8 or 9) and he was doing this charity softball game with Gary Burbank (700 WLW) and several other Reds. I brought a baseball and was getting autographs and everyone was really nice about it. This was the "Big Red Machine" years. I approached Pete and he was just a absolute dick to me. I remember Ray Knight told me not to let him get me upset, Pete always a jerk. That just stuck with me. I can't say enough nice about Ray Knight and George Foster and the way they treated people that day.
I had to deal with him a few more times while working at dealerships. Always a rude asshole.
He might have been a great baseball player, but that doesn't give him the right to be a jerk.
Sometimes you reap what you sow, after he's gone, bring him into the hall. His accomplishments should be recognized, but the "man" isn't worthy.
