I had to say 'goodbye' to my best buddy, Brady, last Tuesday due to kidney failure caused by old age. He was 12 and had been my 'Best Bud' for the past 10+ years since we got him as a rescue.
Rhodesian Ridgebacks are extremely loyal to the family but they'll pick out a single person in the "pack" and be their dog more than the others.
Brady was the 3rd Ridgeback we've had and each one picked a different person.
Now each of us has someone waiting for us at the 'Rainbow Bridge':
'Rocky' (our 1st) is waiting for my daughter
'Toby' (our 2nd) is waiting for my son
And now that the kids are all grown and on their own, 'Brady' is waiting for me.

The Rainbow Bridge
(author unknown)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Truly sorry to hear of Brady's passing....ugh...tough!

I have a 15 year old in kidney failure now. Terrible disease.

Sorry about the passing of Brady.

Sorry to hear...

It's sad to loose your pet, they are family...

Remember all the good times that you had together - you wouldn't trade that for anything....

God bless the people who have/had a rescue dog. Hold the good times tight in your heart. All of us that have lost our little best pal, send you our support.
Mike

Brady will patiently await your arrival and escort you across the bridge. When we lost our beloved Red last year, I gave my wife a framed picture of him with the Rainbow Bridge story engraved on the frame. Never thought I could become a cat person until I finally got married almost 11 years ago at the ripe old age of 51, but Red was part of the deal, and he won my heart. He spent every night of his last couple of months sitting in my lap, and I held him as he took his last breath. I believe we will all be reunited with our loved ones.

You have our condolences. Pets are so much more. People without animals will never understand.

Thanks everyone.
It's been over a week now and I still catch myself wanting to call out, "Hey buddy, I'm home" when I walk through the door after work.

Man that's sad. Seems like our best buddies should last longer. I've always wanted one of those. I think they are magnificent looking.
Truly sorry for the loss ( temporary loss)
