Hi,

I'm looking to convert my 408 Stroker, 69 Dart over to dual electric fans. I know I want spal fans and a harness with good relays. My problem is I can't seem to find the right shroud for my radiator. The Rad was in the car when I bought it and I have no idea of the brand, but looks to be a dual core.

This is the measurements of my radiator (or close to it).

I'm just looking for a nice shroud, dual spal fans, and harness for it. Prefer the fans to pull as close to if not more then 3K cfm combined. I can't seem to find a nice "kit" for it even though the radiator seems to be stock size. I'm on the fence with just buying a whole new radiator, e-fan, harness kit from like champion but before I do I'd like to see how well this one does with goto e-fans on it. Right now I just have a small manual flex fan with no shroud.

I started down that road, using fans from a Ford contour. I wasn't impressed with how it looked, and my time was more valuable if applied elsewhere on the project and decided to bite the bullet on a champion setup. I caught them on sale and I think it was around 389 for new radiator, shroud, and dual fans

Some say stick with a stock fan and a shroud.Did you look in summits Web site. They have a boat load of stuff that's not in the magazine.I used a deral set up on mine but have a different radiator also.A good fan otta draw some amperage also.Mine draws 45 amps

What harness did you use?

I rewired my whole car so integrating the fans was easy. They're connected through 30 amp relays, one fan operates through temp sender to a flex-a-lite controller, the other is switched on the dash for stop and go situations where the temp creeps up above 210.

Why do you want to convert?

If you don't have enough cooling with your current set up but don't really want to go to electric fans you should get a shroud, the proper fan and a fan clutch first, you might be surprised. Not having a shroud with a mechanical fan drops the efficiency quite a bit.

Switching to an electric fan set up is more than just bolting on a set of fans. You need to have a good controller, wire it into your harness with relays, and more than likely increase the capacity of your alternator. If you don't use a good controller or set up the relays properly you probably won't like the results. There are also a lot of really expensive aftermarket electric fan set ups that don't pull as much air as much cheaper OE set ups that can be used. In your case (22" radiator) a Ford Taurus electric fan and shroud might work pretty well, it's a single fan set up but pulls around 3k cfm. I run a Ford Contour dual fan set up on my Duster, but it needs a 26" radiator.

There are a bunch of threads on here about using the Taurus fan set up. Good info in this one...Electric Fans, can they replace my clutch fan?, but there are definitely others.

Wired my dual spal fans through two seperate relay's. first comes on with a 190 degree sensor, the second through a simple adjustable controller with a a/c switch also. I do wish they where curved blades instead of straight blade, when both are on can be a little loud, but have never had a overheating issue, even in stop and go traffic with the a/c blowing cold in the hot south. Has anyone swapped blade on a spal unit before?
