Cracked Block

-
Quoted from UWP in Canada:

Good morning,

We can fix this block, no problem. I would need more pictures of the damages/cracks to give you a ballpark price.

Not that they are going to get it??
At this time I need to be sure of the repair.

I wonder if they can tell you for 100% sure until they see it up close. And you won't go unless the price is OK. And they won't price it without pix.... So..... is this what they call a Canadian standoff.... LOL

Looks that way!
I'll get them a better picture and see where it goes??

I've never heard of them, but there was a place in Canada, in fact the only place I know of that would weld up those junky ford 4.0 heads. That was before there was aftermarket heads were out there.

Never had one of those fail that I know of.

If that's the place, I've used their stuff and it worked.

That stitching i have done on a alu head in the combustion chamber between the intake and exhaust valve.
on a jap head. worked at a wrecking yard, and my boss had me do this only with alu screws and then peen the **** out of them. I thought it was a real shitty thing to do(because the customer never knew that it was repaired only that it was Quote USED) but it held up and did it several more time. It worked every time! Never thought it would have a snowball in hell change.......but it worked.
This was for a hairline crack that only pressurized the cooling system when under a load.

Yours look like a gaping hole......Don't think the stitching process will work for you..... but what do i know, never tried it on cast iron.........

If you get the quote from UPW remember the U.S. $ is worth about 35% more so $700 Canadian is ~ $500 U.S.
Ask if quote inclues taxes.

Thanks Rocket!
My friend said If I brought it to Montreal, I may have a problem leaving with it???

Sadly, many Canadians are familiar with frozen / cracked blocks............perhaps why a Canadian company would not hesitate to do the repair!

The first thing I'd is clean it up and have it magnafluxed. With a crack that wide the metal has moved and cast iron doesn't move (bend) well. I'll be very surprised if there aren't other cracks that allowed it to move. Also I'd be leary about taking it to some one that says they can fix it based on the photo posted.

justinp61, great advise as far as cleaning it up and having it magnafluxed.

Before I would do anything across borders, I'd check with both Canadian and US customs to see what might befall you. And I'd get it in writing.
