my mild 318 sent my 7.25 to hell while doing a power break to adjust my timing.

Yup. That's how they break. One wheel spins and the spider gears over heat, weld themselves to the cross shaft and kaplooey. That's why a sure grip unit makes them so much stronger. It prevents one wheel from spinning.

LOL can see that now, set the hand brakes put in gear and rev while adjusting the timing!:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Hell didn't make this 7-1/4" axle. I thought you would bring it back to Mopar.
Some got their Brakes and Breaks mixed up. Some others again seem to just break stuff by just using their brakes... :)

Thats why the 7 1/4 was never put behind anything making real power..

I have a 8.25 and tell you what they take abuse if set up right.

9" .. here I come! A friend of mine gave me this bit of wisdom about 7 1/4s years ago when i got the Dart for the rugrat .. " Those things will grenade just driving across town" ... I've been lucky. I have a vague memory of him sitting on a mop bucket in the lube bay of the station I worked at on a warm desert summer night putting the 8 3/4 in his '66 GT. The $25 8 3/4 with posi and 4.10s. I think the only new parts we had in that hot rod were the Purple Shaft and the FREE Hooker Headers.

Have you seen the size of that crosspin, and the matching teensey weensey spiders? It's a wonder the saddles in the case last as long as they do. That's probably a good reason to leave the wavy washers in the clutch-packs, and the spring in the accumulator. But for a guy with a stick, let your left foot be the cushion, or Trak-loc it. Or whatever loc-it, but until you do keep some 13s on it

A power brake to adjust timing? What are you going for super Forum hero right out of the gate? aren't you a new member? Well let me be the first to say- " I'm not worthy!"

hahah ya to see it pings to set back my timing a bit

The worst part is i swaped in the original rear back but now i guess the trans got toasted as well just my damn luck

The Newbie thing came from me thinking it was "unconventional"starting the thread. still- "I'm not worthy!"

Oh thank goodness it's only $105 fix. rebuilding a 904 transmission is easier than rebuilding a carburetor! Rebuild kit only costs $105. You dodged the bullet it being only the transmission. It'll cost you $200 for a ring and pinion for any rear end. by the time you spend $200 on a transmission you'll have a new transmission with a badass shift kit.

too many parts. we twisted the yoke off a 7 1/4 with a big block and slicks. it was a failed test.
