Looking to buy a set of aluminum heads for the 360 i got sitting here ,while the 340 is still in the works, who got the best deals on DONE heads price/quality..

How done do you want them ? Mike at MRL is making some impressive numbers with the ProComp heads that are pretty competitively priced . I deal with IMM in Cali but I am using the RHS steel heads .

I can vouch for Mike at MRL, great product but there are a few others on here with good reputations too.

If you buy out of the box assembled heads (like Edelbrock) that are mass produced have them check out by a reputable shop.

If your builder machinist guys is so hot **** like you say, then thats who you should be sourcing your heads through.
As for brand, you should already know as much as we all do about the limited amount of heads that are out there too.

Is there something a shop can do with out-of-the-box assembled heads that can't be done at home?

Hone guides. Machine the seats. Face valves. Machine the surface (yes, heads come out of the box that aren't flat). Correct stem heights.

Correction is there anything you can't check at home. And no s*** Sherlock on the other stuff.

I mean if you get the Edelbrock heads and you pop a spring off and you can't Hammer the valve out of the valve guide it's pretty much time to just send it back? Or if it drops out and rattles around in there it's time to send it back? Or if you poured carb cleaner inside of them and it leaks out time to send them back? Or if you put a flashlight behind valve in the dark and you can see light coming out around the valve it's time to send them back?

Do you have a dial bore gauge at home to measure guides? All of the other stuff I mentioned can be done at home if you have the tools.

Come on now! We all know this is a set up. Just like anytime someone posts "TQ" you instantly have diarrhea of the mouth trashing the carb.

You know who to go to!!!!

Oh brother my eyeballs are a dial gauge!

There's a lot of eyeballing going on these days lol.

BTW...I've seen a head with every intake valve bent and they didn't leak. So you can get a valve sealed and still not have a good valve job.

I think any one of us would see or feel a bad valve job any day of the week without any fancy gauges? Any one of us would probably pop a valve spring off and go yes! Or no! - ??

Dwayne Porter, South Burlington VT (Porter racing heads), is in your neighborhood so to speak. He'd certainly steer you in the right direction.

Mike at MRL told me to get eddy' s. I bought them and had them worked over locally. They were bolt on ready. No issues. Not running yet though. Very pleased so far.....most machine shops told me they never had any problems with them. No harm double checking everything.....im just an average gut though

Sure would like to hear an update on that thread................
Last I heard, Bret Miller had said he wanted to try some different valve jobs. They know someone ready, willing and able to test them out once they make a change.
