Hey guys, need some help. My car (1968 Plymouth Valiant Signet 4DR/Slant Six 225) is currently at my brother's garage as I don't have anywhere to store it at my condo. Does anyone know what size the factory drum brakes are (front and rear)? Unfortunately I didn't measure them and if I'm going to make the 2 hour drive, I'd like to do so with parts in my hands to install. Any help would be appreciated as I'd like to order the parts. Thanks guys!

I would hesitate to order any parts until I confirmed what I had. Probable 9" brakes all around. But could be 10" brakes, I had 10" brakes on the back of my 72 and 9" in the front....don't think it came that way.

Almost assuredly 9" assuming they are stock, but like nocar said, I wouldn't buy nuthin' till I knew for sure.

Gotta love the 68 vals!

Where all do I need to measure? Just the diameter of the drum?

Yup, could be 9" or 10" drums. The 9" drums are definitely more likely, but they could be 10" too, or some kind of non-factory combination of both like mopar-nocar's '72.

I would look for the stamped in number on the outside ring of the drum. It will have something like: Max Dia 9.06 or Max Dia 10.065

That will tell you the size.

If they weren't converted --- all factory 6 cylinder 1968s had
9" x 2 1/2" in the Front & 9" x 2" in the Rear ......
And I have N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++ Brake Shoes -- and N.O.S. ++ U.S.A. made ++ Front & Rear Brake Drums ---- for Front & Rear!!!!!!!!!!!
You would be SMART to use ONLY that -- this new friction material is garbage and costly........
Also have Front & Rear Wheel Cylinders, Front & Rear Brake Hardware -- Combi & Adjuster Kits , Bearings & Seals, All U.S.A. Made !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To measure -- to confirm, measure the diameter of the brake drum -- being a circle -- from 1 side to the other, anywhere,
And the brake shoe width -- 2 1/2" in the Front & 2" in the Rear -- the drum is always about a 1/4" deeper -- because the shoe does not go from
lip-to-lip..... but the drum's dimensions -- are called by the width of the shoe.....

Not true. 9" drums were standard but could get 10" drums as an option, and if you got a 225 you could get a towing package that would have had 10" drums. Last I checked a 225 was still a slant 6. But it looks like you're trying to sell something. Spam much?

The 9" and 10" drum spindles look much different. The 9" spindle has a "gooseneck" to the upper ball joint which comes in from the front (or back, forgot), whereas the 10" spindle "gooseneck" is centered, and thus looks shorter. Google images to be clear. The dust cap on the hub is also a different size, as I recall. Of course, if you remove the wheel the drum will be stamped for max diameter to turn.
