Plug Removal

Without pulling the eng., anyone have a suggestion on how to get #'s 5 & 7 plugs out of a 340 block with hedman, headers in a '75 Duster. They were installed before the block & headers were installed.....of course! Any special tool or tricks would be appreciated!

Without pulling the engine?

Pull the cylinder head.
 
I put the socket in there on the plug first, then put the 3" extension on it.
Works fine.
I can get the socket in from the top and then over to put it on the plug, but the socket can be put on by going under the tube also.

A piece of 5/16 or 3/8 fuel line will be your best friend for getting them started back in.

Tried ALL of the above to no avail, except pulling the head (heh, heh) and grinding a plug socket (that's next, after I try a Westward Spark Plug Wrench, Swivel Head).
Something must be out there. I'm sure many others have the same problem.
 
I have the same setup, these shouldn't be that difficult to take out. Maybe the plugs are seized in there?
 
I don't have the exact headers but with my Hooker Super competition headers, I use a swivel adapter like these. I support the socket at the plug with my hand to ensure the pressure is applied "squarely", without any twist. I use short or mid length socket extensions as required to work around the brake master cylinder that is in the way.

This will be easy for you.
Go to O'Reilly auto parts and look in the tool section for Powerbuilt swivel sparkplug socket. For no.5 cylinder...Take the socket by itself and from the top, put it through between header tube and valve cover , come in left of plug a little. Once you get it on the sprag plug with your other hand coming from underneath the header, tube move the swivel end so that you can put an extension on it. With a ratchet ...break it loose. Now before unscrewing the plug, remove the extention, followed by the socket and use your finger to back the plug out.
Sometimes you can leave the socket on and have a enough room to back it all the way out, sometimes not... so you have to use your fingers. No.7 put the socket on from under the tube and repeat the same as no.5.
 
i always remember just using a plug socked with extension and a ratchet. like stated already put the socket on then get the extension in a good as possible..
