so we run 275/60/15 micky street radials on our car.. we had it on the road and the tire was scalped by the wheel well and bent the lip. how to fix the issue we will roll the lip and i was also thinking of adding shims behind the spring brackets to push the axle back some..and yes i will make sure to keep the axle square. dose anyone have any other ideas and do you see anything wrong with my idea?
drives side has 1/2 in the front, passenger side was 3/8 of an inch. rear side had over an inch.

seems like the rear always has more room than the front, I used a hammer and rolled mine in.

we rolled the top in but we figured we had enough clearance but as you see the 1/2 wasnt enough. if we can roll it to get more then we will. but if rolling wont give me more room the the next step would be to add shimes in front of the shock mount. thats my idea of what to do anyways.

First off, make sure your axle didn't shift because 1/2" should have been enough. Of course I don't know where the center of the widest part of your tire was located (front to back). If the biggest diameter of the tire was below the front quarter opening then it might hit when you hit a big bump (when the tire and rim go up into the well). I put 1/4" shims in front of my spring hangers (69 Barracuda). I measured from the front spring mount bracket to the axle on both sides to get the axle square with the body. The only issue you'll have is a slight misalignment of the shock mount studs besides losing a little on the trans yoke. Also, I don't know how much room you have on the rear opening of the 1/4 panel.

Guiding a baseball bat while rotating the tire rolls the lip nicely but you will probably break the paint.

Of course if you're doing burn outs then the tire will grow some, maybe someone here would know how much that would be??

Depending on the paint type and age heating it with a heat gun could prevent or lessen any cracking

After revisiting the original post, I realized the rolling of the lip is already done.

ill see if i can get a picture to show where the widest part of the tire is.. when it happened he was driving 45mph and not doing a burn out. we recently put caltracs on it so i know its all tight. the only thing we felt was wrong was to spec for the axle u bolts. 45ft lbs the book calls for

45 is correct with weight of the car on the tire, There shouldn't be an issue shimming it back a bit.
