What battery is everyone using

I used to buy the 1000 cca batteries but in order to get those kind of cca #'s they case is filled with thinner plates that don't hold up as well to high engine bay temps. Batteries are damaged by the summer heat but mostly fail in the cold.

When I finally replaced those two ancient Interstates (which I did not buy new...came in cars/trucks I bought) I saw they were both about 750 cca deals. Never had a problem starting in the winter (slant 6 and a 318) but I realized that maybe I didn't need all those cca's to get a reliable start.

When I owned my own big trucks my Petes all had four 12v batteries. Not much of a heat problem with the batteries located in the step box but I still had a problem keeping all four going for more than 3 years. Usually bought 1000 cca rated group 56 units. One time I had an alternator die in upstate NY... coasted into a Mack dealer with zero power. Replaced the alternator and all four battteries with 750 cca Mack branded batteries. Those lasted SIX YEARS!

All this made me rethink about how much power you really need...
