You just haven't lived until its oil change time on an early-a with fenderwell headers. Only had to loosen passenger side header all the way, remove valve cover, become a contortionist and reassemble. lol. Love it.
You just have to remove and losen items to make room to remove filter. No big deal to me and don't care about correcting as car will remain oldschool. Just thought it was kinda cool as the anti jiffy lube oil change. Is it because there is physically not room to remove the filter from the car and reinstall?
Been there, done that. It can only come out from the top on my setup. maybe change to Synthetic so you don't have to change oil as often? You just haven't lived until its oil change time on an early-a with fenderwell headers. Absolutely. It's not that bad & just twice a yr. for me.The cool factor makes it worth it.
Rotate the 90* filter mount to face the filter forwards and then turn the steering wheel to the left all the way to open up the opening by the steering linkage?
I had oldschool fw headers like those and it worked perfectly for my 66....
I've done that in my life, a few times!Happened to me once. Changing oil, my buddy stopped by and handed me a cold one . Started visiting but decided to finish oil change first. Already had filter on so I dumped in the oil. Just had time to get to the store before they closed to get more oil. I had forgotten to replace the drain plug. Thankfully I still had the drain pan in place.
Yote
Shorter filter?
I like where skep419 was going - there has got to be someway, somewhere to mount a remote filter system... forward on the fender well or the radiator support?
ahh - so you weren't bitching - you were bragging!!I am sure there is but that would defeat my oldschool build. Personally don't have a problem with way she is at all.
Just think it is a good example of what we go thru as hot Rodders for a few extra hp. lol

Lol! Am I ever happy finding this thread!! I always thought it was just me going through this!!
Similar set up in my 64 Valiant. For added fun the previous owner thought it was prudent to run the steel brake line directly inches behind the oil filter but didn't snug it to the firewall. First time changing the filter I got my arm stuck in the headers when my arm slipped down above the elbow. Couldn't pull it back out. I was alone in the garage in December and you just know the wife isn't going to bother to come looking for me till Spring! Eventually got enough oil on my arm to grease my way out.
I just changed the filter again a few weeks ago. This time I practiced the route to get it in and out. I did gymnastic moves worthy of a medal on the olympic podium. Only took 10 minutes this time.....but I was sweatin' before doing it again!
None of my friends understand why it is so hard....till they try.....
Nice to meet another "Early A Fenderwell Header Brother in Arms"
