At what age did you retire?

-
I started d rawing SS at 62 because I needed the extra $, worked full time till 67, then part time last 2 years till this year (69).

a doc told me at age 42 I was bout to die, WRONG diagnosis. I had always pursued the things in life I wanted, worked hard to have and do those things..even prior to that point in life.
but after his "diagnosis" I swore to myself to follow my dreams. so I did. no regrets..

I notice a connection between car hobbyists and what I would call "early" retirement. I think that speaks to success and adequate disposable income. Good for you guys!!

Forced to take disability retirement from the Post Office at 42.
Attempted to return to work on a limited basis. But that came to a halt last August.
So.....
I'm going back to school again. 2 semesters in, so far so good.

The other day, somebody asked me if I was retired....

I just smiled and said "No...not retired yet. Just plain tired...."

I retired at age 44 , 17 years ago. I sold my Businesses to a Large American Corporation ( Carquest ). I held on to all the Commercial Real Estate.
They still lease it from me 17 years later. Life is Good...

I'll be retired in about 2 years, at 59 1/2. I'll have 30 years with the city. Probably take a part timer somewhere. Who knows!

57 years old. Was forced in to retirement after a Work place accident. Worked at AT&T 24 years.

I retired after a little more that 35 years at Chrysler Corp. I spent just shy of 35 years at Warren Truck ( we built Dodge Ram 1500's and Dodge Dakota's ) and 7 months at Viper and Prowler. I retired in 2007 at age 53. Back in the 70's we built Ramchargers and Traildusters along with motor home chassis's with 440's in them and school bus chassis's and in the early 2000 we built the Mitsubishi Raiders which was just a glorified Dodge Dakota. Now I just do odd jobs at places that look like fun to work at just for something else to do other than the "honey do list"

I got laid off in the late fall of '08 after 36 years of working in the test lab of an auto parts manufacturer, testing exhaust system and suspension stuff. It was a pretty good place to work for a car guy. Will be 66 in a couple weeks.

Hey Treblig who's to say that I didn't. I am driving a 07 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 HEMI right now that I retired building, but it's still young I only have 166,000 miles on it and expect another 100,000 or so.

I wish to hell I could find some part time work I could handle. "I thought I had er" a local taxi/ tow outfit wanted a "part time dispatcher." The conversation lasted about 15 seconds. I asked her about working hours to get some idea of the "part time" and I've forgotten, they either work TEN or TWELVE hour shifts!!!!

I am NOT going to do anything that involves personal involvement with the pubic!!! "No Wallymart greeter!!"

I'm retired everyday. I was tired yesterday and now I am tired again today so I am retired. Seriously I still have my excavating business and farm but I have cut way back. If it is not in my backdoor I tell them to call somebody else. I do have some that will not do that if there is any way they can talk me into doing it. I am 68 so it is time to slow down. When I started my own business 17 years ago I thought I would get one small dozier and run it 2-3 days a week. Didn't take long until I was running 5 pieces 6 days a week. Plus my retirement from Operating Engineers and social security. Not complaining I have been blessed.

I retired from Chrysler Engineering when I was 50 years, 5 months and 15 days old. That was 14 plus years ago. I started at Warren Stamping in Aug,1972, did a short stint at Dodge Truck and then 20 years in Engineering between Highland Park and Auburn Hills.

Life is good.

Forced into disability from injury in the line of duty at 40. My health is progressively getting worse because I am in need of a new liver and I never drank. I hope to make it long enough to enjoy my 68 Dart GT that I am trying to get done.

Wow....I am 63 and figure on retiring at 72 when I can get my full pension from the state. I wish I could retire. I wish I could I wish I could...

I was basically kicked out of the computer industry after 30 years in media duplication and data eradication. At 55 and unemployed I found that age discrimination is alive and well in the tech industry. Spent two years trying to get back in at any level but it didn't happen. Now at 57 im working as a custodian at a high school. The school year ain't bad but the summer time is hell. Lots of very physical work and it's hard to do with some of my health issues. Never thought I'd be this age and doing such a physical job.
I'm hoping to retire at 63 if my body lasts that long.
