The suspension on my '67 Barracuda was modified by a previous owner, and I have no records for what was installed. My idler arm is worn out. I discovered on this site it does not use the original '67 idler arm because mine has a through-bolt to attach to the frame tabs. I thought it would be the '68+ setup so I bought a Moog K7042 idler, but that one drops farther and the tapered shaft protrudes upward while mine needs to protrude downward. Since the tapered shaft is tapered, I assume it can only insert into the center link shaft in one direction? Photo attached of the bad idler arm still installed. I'm trying to find out which idler arm I need and/or which front suspension I now have. Looks like "maybe" I could try Moog K7066 for 73-79 charger, or K7086 or K7014 just based on pictures. Thanks.

From 68/ later there are only two unless it was something weird like BB/ hemi, I know nothing of those

Up through 72 the "studs" pointed up, 73/ later they pointed down

"Old style" up through 72 studs point UP

73 / later studs point down

There are FOUR parts concerned with this swap regardless of actual year of car:

Pitman arm, steering box (large/ small spline), idler arm, and the center link

Thanks, Kiss and 67Dart. The 73+ may make sense because the idler arm in the 73+ picture looks like mine. Also because the engine swapped in is a 360LA small block which I think came from a '75 Charger. Would that engine swap require a k-member swap, which would lead to using the idler arm and steering components from the 73+ vehicle?

No, you can put the 73 parts in anything 68/ later AS LONG as you have a pitman to match the steering box, which may / may not have the later large spline. As to "why" hard to say. Has nothing to do with a charger, those parts are different.

Only reason you cannot put those parts in a 67 is the old style idler arm, which you say has been modified

And the opposite is true. If you have a 73/ later, and have "those parts" and the appropriate steering box, you can also put the older parts into a 73--76

"Maybe that's what they had"

To close the loop on this, the correct idler arm was Moog K7086 for '73+ Dart, etc. It has "7324-C" cast into the part itself, both the old part and the replacement part.
