What battery is everyone using

-
I've got a 1250 cca monster battery out of the CAT loader at work. It's a 24volt system so I put one in the trunk of the dart, the other barely fits in the tray of my older Ram. It cranked the dart after sitting all winter and having 11:1 compression and started the truck even at 30 below zero last winter. They're 7 yrs old and still don't go dead after a lot of cranking. I believe they're Ameri-Start batteries from car quest. Not sure who makes them but they're pretty reliable batteries. Especially for free.lol battery cables were toast, so they said replace everything

Theres only a handful of battery manufacturers, most batteries even with different labels can be produced by tge same company. East Penn, Deka and Johnson Control are the most common.

so I need a new battery for the last project roller. I go to Auto Zone and find a few small things I could not find at O Reilly. GREAT! Livingston Tx. ya got love this part of SE Texas!??.... I get ready to get my new battery, looking for a group what was it? no one to be seen but this young Mexican girl, she asks in broken English what I want. battery for 71 Plymouth Duster, I reply.
she never could get the plymouth or duster part, finally another worker overhears our conversation and looks up the size! HA!

Any place that sells batteries should have a catalog for vintage vehicle batteries, we have one at my work

Turbostart AGM Group 27 Red Cap Mopar Restoration Battery. 4.5 years old
Battery tender connected over the winter and when not driving for long periods.
AGM is the way to go. I happen to like the Mopar vintage look too.
Group 27 instead of 24 for the additional CCA and reserve, fits easy and I'm not worried about the weight. It has been reliable and cranks my 418 stroker with ease.
In my Duramax I run 2 Blem Interstates... 2 of those cost less than one of these.
Interstate Blems in every other vehicle, boat, trailer, RV just not my Mopars...

battery in trunk, cheapest group 27 , "sealed" I can find. Never got over 3-5 yrs out of anything but an optima, their too expensive for me now.

I've had 2 red top optimas in my truck and bought a blue top deep cycle for my boat. Will NEVER buy another one!!! Glad some of you guys have luck with them. But the ones I had didn't last 6 months, then wouldn't even take a charge. The blue top would run my trolling motor for half hour and go completely dead

Great send them to me. I'll bring them back to life!

Does anyone make new batteries with caps and old fashioned liquid acid in anymore ? I realize it is vintage ones, but I was thinking about regular ones for a decent price ? Not talking about Mopar look alike, or Ford or GM look alike, just a regular battery.

I have a Red top Optima and always keep an Optima charger on it, it's going on seven teas now.

Well, our winters are fairly mild compared to other parts in the world, but I've come to the conclusion it are the regular lead/acid batteries that usually croak during the winter.

I bought into the AGM hype and both discharged rapidly below zero degrees, to the point that they would barely crank the engine over. I switched both vehicles back to regular lead acid batteries and the below zero barley cranking problem went away. Dollar for dollar I am better off replacing my lead acid batteries a year early instead of spending the additional amount on an AGM battery hoping it lasts longer. It has also been my experience that batteries croak in the winter. Nomally when the parts store is closed. Your climate may vary.

Except in the winter

I have never used Optima myself, but from others in Norway I hear that it gives good power, last fairly long, but never let it decharge fully. If it gets empty, it is more or less done, just get a new battery. I have never seen any explanation for it, just that everyone seem to agree about it.

Uptill now I've only bought about 5 used gel-batteries over time for various cars and they've all treated me good... except for one that is, where indeed the previous owner had let the battery go flat a couple of times (too many).
Turned out he used the battery for powering the led-lighting in his garden and one time he forgot to turn them off.
The battery shows full when checked, but it has no power when trying to crank an engine.
I'm currently trying to get it to hold a charge again by hooking it up on the slowcharger everytime I'm in the garage.

Try this. The AGM battery in my motorcycle was completely dead because someone left the key on (hmmmmm). I put a Battery Tender on it several times but it wouldn't take a charge. I decided that the battery was just dead and that it needed to be replaced so I pulled it out. Before going to the battery store and raising hell because I paid TWICE as much for a battery that lasted HALF as long I tried one more trick. I hooked the dead battery to a jump box (battery) and then hooked the trickle charger up to both. Within 24 hours both batteries were fully charged and the bike battery has been working great all summer. When they're dead they need to see some sort of voltage before the charger will kick on. The other battery provides this.

Right, if you have a Optima that is dead, hook it up to a good battery, then hook the charger up. Gotta charge them thru a good battery.

I had a WalMart group 26 battery in my Valiant fail last Sunday. It was given to me in June of 2006. It spent a good share of it's life hooked to a battery tender and only had to turn a stock slant six but that battery must have been made on a good day.
