Got a 64 Valiant yesterday. Needs lots of TLC, but I can already tell it is gonna' be a favorite.

I dug mine out of a barn awning. Sat for twenty years. Love it! Enjoy the resto. Mines my daily :)

Nice... Just wait till you get her all fixed up.... :steering:
I had a 63 for about 15yrs.sitting out here and started workin on it and been workin now for a yr and a half got all the running gears fixed still like the bodywork on it kinda got burnt out on it need to start back on it......LOL

I despise body work.....this one is straight and very little rust; except the floor pans are gone. So, gonna' get some pans for it and start there. IF I can figure out the title problem: as in getting it transferred after it has been out of the system since 1983!

I also despise the DMV. 53 Y.O. car and now I have to go to an anti-theft task force because THEY don't have record of the car in the State of Texas. Have to get a bonded title. What a waste of a morning and an hour's drive.

I only partially blame the bureaucrats, someone way back dropped the ball on transferring title on the car and it has probably changed hands 1/2 dozen times since it was last on the road.

In any case, the car has not been roadworthy since 1983 and the records were not updated...so the Valiant does not exist according to the computer screen. Anyone want to lay money on rather or not the anti-theft task force officer knows where the VIN is located?

Here is mine after I got it running the first time back in 95 with a V8, 4 speed crash box and a 7 1/4 rear.

64 Valiant owner here too. Awesome buy!

Sorry to hear about the VIN issue. I know it is a pain but get it all sorted out before you drop another dime or time on the car.

Title has been taken care of! I just got back from running all over south Texas and a bonded title is on the way from the State. Bonded and in my name, I might add. Soooo, it is officially (sorta') my car.

Or that they will argue because there are no rivets holding it on, or not 17 numbers, or the fact that the first two are stamped, the rest are raised. Unless they have dealt with old Mopar, these are all red flags to them because that's what the book or computer says.

yep.... TEXAS... that is why the Tx. 71 duster I picked up will get a Mo.title when I get back there in NOv!!!!!! not to mention the $90 Tx wold charge just to change it over to a TX title, it will stay titled MO!!!!!!!!! ha

My 65 dropped out of the CA system (1971 tags) when I bought it so they titled it as a 1997 Plymouth Barracuda! Smog cert and everything. I get the renewal a year later and they are asking me for a smog cert. Bite me, its a 65! Had to go to CHP and have them sign me off as a '65. F'n fat lazy *** DMV sloths..****'s never even get out of their seats until they got to eat again, go on break or ****. AAA is a Godsend when you can go there instead of DMV to take care of simple stuff, but they can't do lein sales or other weird stuff.

Almost a year later....car LOOKS the same, but is now tagged/inspected and roadworthy. Not much to look at or very powerful, but it IS operable. Engine is TIRED, and the 2nd most sludged up engine I have ever had the Valve cover off of....but, starts easy and gets me down the road.

Get it hot and pour a bottle of .99 store yellow degreaser into the crankcase. Idle for another 15 and then drain it. **** will come out in clumps. Drop pan and scrape the sludge out the bottom, and soak the pickup tube while you are down there. Reassemble and hit the road.

I used to have some pics in the bottom of some slant s oil pans,,, It would be 2 inches deep! MUD! LOL cleaned them up and if not totally wore out, ran with their usual NO power! but I still love the slant. Ever have a fresh one??? it is great! But still NOT any real power!! LOL
