Now we got the coil, drive shaft, and yoke in, but nothing happens when we turn the key?
Maybe it needs a new switch...
Well, just ordered the Shumacher ball joint pipes for the greatest adjustabilty to go with my Shumacher headers, so I could gain the greatest ground clearance possible for the exhaust system...

The first pic is of the ball joint pipes, n next is the regular version...

To be honest, I sort of hate the name swinger, now. Besides the obvious sexual connotation, I sort of wish it was more like "r/t" or "superbee" or " 'cuda " or "Scamp" or anything really...

I am sort of glad mine is a "Custom". My dad seems to think Customs are sort of low drawer, and they were the rest of the years, but in 1970 Custom was high end.

Mine had a/c and had lots of stupid chrome and such, with a vinyl top and swanky interior when it started its life...
But I am not going to restore any of that.

It is now a heavily modified and very "custom" Dart, and since I won't ever sell it, I suppose the only one I want to impress is me :)

So, I guess my car will will bear this badge with honor (which happens to be the only year that custom was not written out in cursive script) :)

So, we got the new gas tank, sending unit, filler neck, straps, etc. on! yay!!!!

Was just about to start up and then nothing!
We put on a new ignition switch and pretty much everything switch, so I think we need a new engine harness as we were using one off a 70 challenger and it doesn't seem to be all there, lol...

Ordered on from Evans Wiring (1970 383 a body with electric ignition)... so we'll put that on when it gets here and hopefully itll start up for break-in!!!

Well, its been awhile since I posted last... Dad has been working away on my ride.

After installing the entire new gas system : gas tank, filler neck, carb, filters etc. (except for the main gas line), we discovered that the main gas line was plugged up, so we got a new one put in courtesy of Mopar Bill...

SO, my Dad got the engine all broke in, and the only real hiccup was that the starter was not disengaging, so they replaced it with another one on hand and it solved the problem...

Now just need to install shifter, get a front end alignment, and get the exhaust put on!!!

(Then full interior and exterior restoration)

I must say that your progress is inspiring!! And don't let Dad bust your chops about the "custom" status, in this day and age, all of our old cars are custom!!keep up the good work, the engine bay looks awesome!!

Have run in to a few bumps, like the transmission being installed incorrectly and incorrectly coupled with the torque converter. This resulted in the torque converter being destroyed...

So, we took the tranny to a shop and they're going thru the whole thing and installing a shift kit and new front pump... We bought a new torque converter as well...

Here's a pic of the car right now... All the mechanical is almost done, but it needs total exterior n interior cosmetics... The white pin stripe on the passenger side is nice, I think I'm gonna replicate it when I paint the car to its original t-6 color...

SO, the project has been on hold for the winter because the car is in North Idaho, etc...

But, its SPRING now!

I am getting super excited about getting my car mostly done mechanically, and beginning to work on the cosmetics...

We got the steering column out, and since it was a blue column shift, we changed it over to a floor shift collar and installed a nice original tuff wheel on it...

After painting it black, back in it goes!

Hallelujah! So glad to be moving forward again :)

I finally got to cruise the Dart around and see how road worthy it is. It has some rattles and such like the front windows rattling around and possibly the exhaust tapping on the undercarriage somewhere, but she goes down the road almost like a real car...

The tune job on the new quick fuel carb is terrible, so the secondaries don't seem to be even kicking in, but motor, tranny, rear end seem great. Front torsion bars need raised about half an inch or so (a rub at the right angle on a sharp turn) and such.

Lots of tinkering left to do, and ALL of the cosmetics to do... Nice to get her out of the garage for the day :)
