So I bought a Procar Sportsman racing seat with their bracket. I was happy with everything until I got it installed and sat in the car for the first time. My head is scrapping the ceiling and the steering wheel is practically between my knees. I'm 6'3" and pushing close to 250 so I can see how this issue didn't seem to come up for most people suggesting these seats. Fortunately I just bought the one so it can be a passenger seat for now.

My question here is what's the best solution to this problem? Ideally I'd need something that didn't need brackets to install. I'd like something that will hold me in place during a corner and have a little more padding than a chunk of plastic. Any suggestions?

I went with buckets from an Eclipse. I'm a tad over 6 feet and 230, the eclipse seats have built in brackets that are really really low. Just enough to clear the slider of the floor. Cost was 25 bucks a pop from pick a part. They have enough side bolstering to hold you in for most spirited street driving though I wouldn't wanna go road race door to door with them.

That brings up a good point I failed to mention. I put in hand brake and with be driving the wheels off the thing. Definitely plan on throwing in a 4-5 point harness. Probably looking at something like a Sparco race seat but will honestly take just about anything that fits well just to get this show on the road.

Cut the brackets down about an inch and reweld them. Then just leave lowest mounting tap on the rail. That's what I had to do with the same seats. Still a tad high for me at 6'1 230 lbs but it sure is better

Yeah that's what I was thinking but I'd probably need a little more than an inch or 2 to be actually happy with the fitment. With a helmet on and headliner on, I'll be right back to scrapping the top of the car.

Ya I hear you. Tough trying to make them fit. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of finding a different seat

Yeah and I already have four 1/2" holes drilled in my floor. This build is refusing to let anything go the easy way. I'm thinking I'll probably need something like this that I sit down into:

Probably going to have one hell of a time getting in and out of something like that but beats breaking my neck.

So Sparco doesn't seem to have seat brackets for any A body but Corbeau does.

with a 5 point harness , u should be able to use a stock 67-8ish bucket seat. they are comfortable when the foam is good, and easy to get in and out of. a lot of these aftermarket seats aren`t wide enough for big guys, especially the moulded plastic ones.

yep^^ I've only found one that is, and its made by Corbeau and about 600 a piece.

I'm not scared to spend some dough on a good seat. Most of the seats seem to claim to fit up to a 36-38" waist which will work for me surprisingly. The wide Corbeau is for 40-42. The best I found was their Evolution which is only 2.5 inches thick from the mount surface to the seat cushion. Only $400 as well. I asked about the Forza Sport as well since it seems to be close. Definitely think I'll be going with them regardless though. Thanks for all the input. Will update the thread after I get everything in.

wonder about order the seat without foam and then having it form fitted by an upholstery shop locally?

they seem to be narrower than advertised in my experience

After talking with Corbeau they recommended the Evolution as it sits .5" lower than the Forza. They said I could get another 1" by eliminating the tracks, doubt I can anything better without a lot of fabrication.
