Any of you own a pellet grill/smoker like a Traeger, Pit Boss, or Green Mountain? I know there are other brands too. Pros and cons? Looking to buy one. thanks, Mike

I have a Big Green Egg. My buddy bought a Pit Boss pellet grill, the smaller one. He had a couple complaints, as I recall it did not come with slotted plate that would keep your meat away from direct flame, so can't do indirect cooking. And no way to dump the unburned wood pellets to easily switch to different type of pellet.

Which model? Big or small? Does yours have a temp probe?
We actually have both sizes. The larger one has two probes. I prefer using the smaller one which doesn't have probes but I use an external temp probe to check temp with that one. For four people or less the smaller one is best. I like making beer can chicken on mine.

My children bought me an inexpensive unit a few years ago. I really didn't expect much out of a cheap smoker, but absolutely enjoy cooking with it. I've had pulled pork, beef brisket, all types of chicken. Wings and jalapeno poppers the last two Super Bowl games were awesome. Not a pellet deal, but I think they paid less than 200 for it. I thought I would give it a shot and buy a new one, but haven't found a reason to replace it. Using different types of wood chips can really provide a unique opportunity to experience food. I've baked potatoes as well as corn on the Cobb. My son in law gave me a probe that will call my cell phone when the temperature I have set is ready. Set your temperature and leave it alone. My wife calls a mans crock pot.

Old thread. I ended up with a Pit Boss Classic 700 from Wal Mart and couldn't be happier.
