I have a 1972 duster when I go to start the car I have no power anywhere no lights ect. Try it again and sometimes it will start also there is a clicking noise from the dash when it is running and the voltage gauge spikes and the lights flicker. Not sure if these problems are related. If some one could help me out that would be greatly appreciated

There will be some good Tech's jump in and help, sounds like the ground (Jumper) to the radiator support to the negative battery is not hooked to the ground good to begin with, have you tried changing the starter relay ?

Check your fusable link for any breaks... Feel the wire all the way along it and see if there are any breaks or any soft mushy spots... It should be coming out of the middle bulkhead connector in the engine compartment

I would start right at the battery and main battery cables. After that check the bulkhead connector and see if power is getting from the starter relay "stud" through the fuse link to the large red feeding through to the ammeter.

You need a factory shop manual, you can download them from MyMopar

You need a test lamp, a multimeter, and some alligator clip leads

If the battery / cables don't provide relief, turn the headlights on and "wiggle." Wiggle battery cables, the bulkhead connector, reach under the dash and wiggle parts of the harness. If you have a radio you can turn that on with the lights and even the wipers/ heater motor to watch and listen for failure.

Thanks I will at least have somewhere to start now kinda new to this forum thing but I have another question would a bad wiper switch cause the voltage to spike and make a pinging noise under the dash.the wipers quit and I just replaced the motor

.............hmmm from your description, don't know

There is a cycling circuit breaker on or inside a wiper switch ( varies with model ). It will click as it cycles due to a short circuit although its supposed to only cycle when the wipers are frozen to the glass. How many times it cycles before it fails completely is anyones guess. It don't know when to give up. Meanwhile this short circuit is fecking with other parts and pieces throughout electrical system.
My guess... the one initial fault has caused another.

I had a similar problem with my Neon years ago, turned out that a plate in the battery had broken (!) and was causing a short.
