I have a stock 340 intake laying around and my boy is sorting out a 318 in his Duster. His 318 has a 2bbl intake. I know the ports don't match perfectly, but can we put the 340 intake and a four barrel on his 318 for now and get him some power until he gets things sorted?

Thanks!

It will work great! I've done this lots of times. Do not make too much fuss about the mis-matched ports. In fact, I have a factory 340 cast intake on my 318 right now.

I did it, Edelbrock Tarantula TM-5:

I've used the stock 1970 340 intake w/ AVS carb as well as the stock 1972 340 intake with ThermoQuad on my 318. Both worked just great.....although the TQ got considerably better fuel economy than the AVS. Keep in mind though, that there will be differences mating carb linkage, automatic transmission linkage geometry, choke, etc.

If your exhaust isn't done, I'd start with that. 4bbl needs, in the very least, a good dual exhaust system.
Going from a 318 2bbl, single exhaust and muffler, to a 4bbl with a good dual exhaust system with be a "seat of the pants" difference

Why stop there,

Lets go with some custom mechanical carbs with NOS

Oh heck Yeah. Yours looks better than mine.I'll admit that. So the topic is now a 6 pack on a 318?

Brilliant! Thanks guys. This is a Duster being built by my 16 year old, so we just want a bit of extra power... We've got a real 340 on the engine stand after he gets a bit more practice. And dad has a 1970 440-6 Cuda that he had better not touch. I'm thinking about sleeping with the distributor under my pillow...

16 yr old & a 6 pack motor? He will get all the cute girls. Go for it.
