I have someone looking to buy my 8 3/4 center section. Anyone have any ideas how to ship something like that. Does FASTENAL ship things ? This is all new to me.

crate it up in plywood and send ups. i have done several of them that way. Fastenal will also ship, may be somewhat less

Greyhound will ship up to 90lbs. You can look up the cost if you know the weight and the length and the destination (on line). Piece of cake!!

Put it in a 5 gallon plastic bucket, seal it up, and ship it that way via either UPS or FedEx.

I've both shipped and received center sections that way. I've found Fed Ex to be less expensive that UPS on heavy/kind of large items

If using a bucket I would pad it well on the inside. UPS could destroy an anvil. A plastic bucket with loose heavy iron in it would only be a minor challenge for them.

fastnal is pretty good. you find the nearest store to you that ships. they ship it ti the nearest store as to is going to receive it. you can ship cod pre paid. he pays, you deliver to the store. it goes from truck to truck until it gets there. they are CHEAP! I shipped a 400 block from ohio to s. Carolina, 150$. they even banded it to the pallet I brought with me... cheap shipping. good service. full stop.

Agreed on the 6-gallon bucket if one is available. With a 5 gallon bucket, you need to cut a hole in the lid for the yoke.

I have had a few shipped to me this way with no problems. It is good to put some old shop towels or foam rubber in the bottom for a cushion.

I, also have used the bucket method (for many years) with a twist. Although it may seem overkill, I place the third member in a HD black commercial trash bag and tightly twist & tie the top (cutting off the excess just above the top of the bucket.. Then I shoot a bit of expanding foam in the bottom of the bucket and let it set up for a minute and then kerplunk the third member on top while holding the tightly twisted end of the bag to keep it centered. Then I shoot around the sides of the third member and on top. I let that setup for a few minutes until it is finished expanding across the top of the bucket. Then I drag a 2x4 across the top to get a flat surface and then let it completely set and then throw the lid on and tape the hell out of it. Again, perhaps overkill but never had any complaints or damaged units arrive to the end user. Granted, you could cheat and use packing peanuts but they do compress if not packed super tight and ... expanding foam is just plain ol' fun to use.

Thanks guys. Looks like I am going with FASTENAL. There is a shop just 3 miles from me.
