Help with 318 Build, please.

I have a 72 Scamp, 318. It's punched .030 over. Stock heads (I think 1.76/1.40 valves) with a 3 angle valve job. I run this Comp cam 20-222-3 - Xtreme Energy™ Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshafts Edelbrock performer intake and 600 CFM eddy carb. Small exhaust manifolds and it runs mid to low 15s with 2.76 gears.

That cam is supposed to be the largest you can run without a stall but mine would chirp the tires when going into drive until I put in a stall lol. Look into the 302 casting heads instead of 340/360 X or J heads. You'll lose some compression on the 318 with those heads whereas the 302 have a smaller chamber. Hot Rod did a build where a 318 made about 400 crank HP with those heads. The cam I linked you to has a good lope to it.

Me personally, I would do the cam and heads at the same time since you're in there anyway. But I know how the budget thing goes, hence why I have stock heads when I pulled my engine. Good to see other guys building the teeners.
