Unbelievable. *crybaby alert.

Some states (just a few) actually allow parking in handicap parking spaces with a disabled veteran plate even if the plate does not have the international symbol on it. This caused a ton of controversy in Texas where it is allowed, but has not been changed yet. This is not allowed in VA where I live. Either way, if New Mexico does not allow for this exemption then she is dead wrong if she does not have a placard or a plate with the international symbol. I will say, you can receive handicap plates for mental illnesses, like PTSD, it just depends on your doctor signing off on the necessary paperwork. The DMV does not get to adjudicate this decision if a doctor signs off. This is a controversy in a lot of states because of the proliferation of people with placards when they seemingly have no discernible disability. I work in the world of disabled veterans and people with disabilities and I can tell you that handicap parking is one of the most fought over and misunderstood issues out there.
