Im looking to get some new rubber up front for my 67 barracuda fastback and am running into a wall. Its a street/strip car so im trying to go as skinny as possible. Wheels are cragar ss 14x7 wheels with the 5x4 bolt pattern. Right now it has hercules bias ply 205/75b14 tires but theyre very weather checked from age and cords are showing. I know 14" tires are limited unless i wanted a modern style tire but i dont. Any suggestions??

On the front of my 68 Barracuda I went with 215x60x15 and they fit nice on15x6. Not sure if you can get them in 14's also?

have you tried Coker tire?
I have looked there but still having issues. Like i said im shooting for skinnier tires. Right now they have a section width of about 8"ish and tread width of 5". Definatly dont want to go any wider than that and seems like all coker tires ive seen are either white wall or wider and the ones i have been interested in say the max wheel width is 6" where i have 7"

14 inch tires are still very common. you can get some goodyear viva's in a 195 75 R 14 at walmart. Fairly inexpensive and they would be just a touch narrower that the 205's. 205 70 r14 could be an option too.

Im assuming those are a modern style car tire? If so i just dont know if they would look right on my setup with the drag radials on the rear.

not sure bout mounting them on a 7 inch wide rim though. might need to stick with the 205's at minimum

Thats what im running into and any modern 205's are going to be much wider than i want. The tires i have look fine on there but they dont make the tires i have anymore...

It is a total myth and internet BS that 14s are limited or going to stop being made any time soon. Check BF Goodrich. They make damn near every size there ever was in a 14" radial. So do several other companies. Don't believe everything on the internet.

Again right now i have bais ply tires and they would work fine. Any radial tire i have seen that would work with my wheels are too wide for my taste. Because the tread goes all the way to the sidewall where my bias ply tires have a skinnier tread width than the tire itself...not sure if im making sense i guess

Good luck with that. The 215 70 14 Goodrich is essentially the same size tire........with a tad more tread width. Is this a street car? Bias ply tires in the rain on a classic Mopar? For real?

Yes

Theres got to be someone out there whos delt with this...

Just my 2 bits but I've always ran either 4 bias or 4 radial.

Bias plies usually have a stiffer sidewall which when coupled w/ radials on the back, "COULD" screw w/ the stability of the car.

But then again it's just my 2 bits.

I think your front wheels are too wide for what you are trying to do.

Generally the "strip" part of your car wants a tall, skinny, front tire. The larger diameter improves the time spent between the two beams at the starting line reducing the tendency to red light. A lighter tire/wheel combo on the front will reduce your ET because of the lighter rotational mass.

If you have to stay with the 14" wheel, look for a tire with a 75 or maybe a 70 aspect ratio. I doubt that 78 or 80 aspects are available in 14".

If this really is a street/strip car, consider going to a skinny 15" front wheel and appropriate skinny tire. (Front runners) You could even swap them out on strip days.

Im beginning to see that my wheels arent right for what im trying to do. Unfortunatly new wheels arent in the cards right now. And the 5x4 pattern seems to be a tad tricky to find also... Thanks for the help everyone
