Trimless windshield rubber?

The cars from the 60 and early 70s (maybe later) had front and rear glass that is smaller than the opening in the car. Unless you weld in a strip of metal to make the opening smaller there's nothing to glue the glass to?? The rubber seal (gasket) lets the glass float in the opening (suspended by the rubber). There's one member on FABO who welded a 3/4" (more or less) strip of metal to the inside of the glass opening so he could install his windshield like all the newer cars. It's a great idea to completely stop corrosion around the glass!! I would have done that with my Barracuda but mine had great paint and a perfect body, I didn't want to modify it.
