CASCADE???

I go into a Advanced Auto store today and ask the kid behind the counter for the best colling system flush that they have. He says to be honest with you I drain the antifreeze and fill the syetm with water and put 3 tablespoons of cascade in the system. Run the car up to temp and then drain the system. Repeat 3 times and the results will be better than anything we have on our shelves. I am not a firm believer in kids at Advanced Auto who were born after my car was built. Has anyone ever heard of this? What do you use? My car has run hot since I got it. I want to flush my system good before replacing my radiator that sprung a leak yesterday after it was re cored.

I've done it but I drove the car about 50 miles each time, until the water ran nice and clear, I also put more like a 1/4 cup of cascade in. Worked great. I believe there was a thread about this awhile ago.

There is zero chance that cascade can clean a truly dirty/ rusty/ scaled cooling system.

I can remember my brother in law many many years ago putting tide? in the radiator of his 71 Toyota Corona. I never laughed so hard in my life as he was trying to flush the radiator afterwards, that damn little car made more suds than anything I have ever before or since. I laughed so hard my side went into a spasm. I sure miss him. He died in 2007. RIP Victor.

I heard of people using vinegar. Stuff like Tide and Cascade used to be quite caustic for cleaning. Like carb dip, the EPA has mandated chemicals be removed so the volatility of these products has reduced.

That said having a nice lemon sent in the cooling system would be a good change.
