What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

I fabbed an adapter plate (brackets are for booster) and got my master cylinder in place, bled and filled with DOT-5 stopping juice.

At the risk of sounding ignorant why DOT 5? Is it that much better or does your set up have to have it? Very interested in advantages. I have to re-do my brakes, lines and all.

Ignorance, mostly. Higher number is better?

What I've actually picked up somewhere is that DOT-5 is silicon based and doesn't absorb water. And that it won't strip the paint off my calipers. Not sure how much of that is true, though. But it is silicon-based.

And I encourage asking me why I do stuff if it seems odd. I don't always have a good answer and it might prevent me from making serious mistakes.

So thanks! :)

DOT-5 is silicone based fluid, and one huge advantage is that it will not destroy paint. DOT-5 is hydrophobic (will not absorb water). This stops a lot of corrosion in brake systems. One disadvantage is that you will have to bleed the system a couple times to remove all the air bubbles that seem to form in DOT-5.

Seems I was actually correct this time, then. Great news!

Protecting my brake system from rust is actually my main reason for getting it.

Working on my driver Crown Victoria. She just died last night sitting waiting to turn left. The best I can tell being it lost accessories and has no check engine light but will crank is the Passive Anti Theft has failed. I can feed power through a jumper to the ignition switch and it will run with everything working fine.

(Finally) Got the first coat of paint on my new DIY subframe connectors. Thanks to Trailbeast, 72bluNblu and all the other FABO's who shared their SFC designs and ideas. Next on the list: tune up the K-Frame and start putting the car back together 408 style!!!!

you're imbalanced?
hard to see but in between the ll's in holley is the fuel level inside the float.

Swapped out my holley street hp for a 600 double pumper I had laying around. Seams to like it. except for the secondaries over fueling the entire drive to work.

NOTHING... too hot to work on the car.... BUT cool enogh to stretch barb wire. ha....... 96 temp and 107 heat index is just right. when too much is JUST right!
ha

I bought a am/fm radio for my Swinger. I will be cleaning the radio to make it look closer to new.

Today I double checked the fit / clearances between my (new to me) K Frame, the steering box, Mounting brackets and a mockup of the deep-sump Kevco pan I am going to be installing. Everything checked out fine, just going to grind a tiny bit off the K Frame to clear one corner of the pan. Now to finish tuning up the K Frame and get it bolted in the car....

Ordered a new wix 42096 air filter. (old one got water logged from the drive home from work last night) Had to look it up by dimensions on there website. Now I'm making a part number/notes list in my phone.
Air filter, fuel filter, belt numbers, jet sizes, power valve number, timing, etc.
watched Stacey David last weekend. He sells a book for keeping track of everything. pretty good idea i thought.

Not very sexy but put a new Pitman arm on 65 Dart. I did a complete front end rebuild 3 winters ago but for some reason never did Pitman arm. Went with Moog K7074. Old one was very loose, interesting to see how much that tightens up steering. I was thinking of getting steering gear box rebuilt this winter but maybe won't have to. Between work and rain haven't had a chance to take it out yet. Crossing my fingers :)

This week more on the '61 Falcon. Finished stripping the dash (part of the unibody), and stripped/repaired the NOS fender that was rusty. Continuing on doing the body, then painting.

Went for a nice cruise with my elder brother that has not been for a ride since the 80's. It started good but my path of choice turned into a dirt road from hell. Who builds a nice road then piles dirt on top to raise it! About 3 miles in at near idle I had to turn around and find another route! Still got about 100 miles in but that sucked! Have a show to do next week and the car is very nasty! All the other nice cruise roads are back logged with the ecplipse crowd. Guess I should be happy the car ran great and seat time is always nice!
