I had a cousin loose a hand in a rock crusher back in the 50s. He was cleaning out the huge rollers and somebody accidentally turned the machine back on. With no one to help him (and the rollers rolling) he had to literally pull the remaining part of his hand out of the rollers leaving behind all his fingers and all the ligaments out of the back of his hand.
