As luck would have it, I survived the eclipse and still have Wed off. Thinking about installing my Lokar throttle cable kit, as well as my Lokar 904 Kickdown cable kit today.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PLEASE don't reply here with any comments about how great the Bouchillion cables are. I already own the Lokar cables/brackets/springs, and am going to install them.

Just looking for any tips/tricks/hints here. I think I can figure it out. but a little wisdom never hurts.

Thanks,
Gabe

the stock ones are even better

lol, sorry, couldnt help

but as mikey say, it is pretty straight forward
on my car with the carb closed there is about 3/16th between the barrel lock on the cable and the part that mounts to the throttle bracket (look at the pic, it makes sense)
this works on my car, it may not work on your car, but it may serve as a good starting point

make sure you put the adjuster (far right of the pic) centered, so you can in essence shorten or lengthen the cable by adjusting that after you got the barrel put on

if at some point you feel like you need to trim the cables, i've found the easiest way to do this, without the cables fraying, is by wrapping some electrical tape around it and then cutting it with a cut off wheel
(also works on the braided steel outer sheath, but i would leave the tape on there after cutting it, to prevent it from fraying afterwards

oh, and be sure to take the cables out of the outer sheaths and lube them up with some graphite powder before reassembly

Lube the threaded adjusters so the threads don't gall.learned my lesson.

1. Transmission kickdown return. Because of the cable design it can get "bound-up" from 1 cause or another (stressed cable, not enough spring action in the kickdown lever, etc) and delay returning when letting off the gas, or get hung-up and not return all the way. If this is happening you can add a light return spring down on the kickdown lever. A good mounting point for the spring is the boss where the column-shift linkage bolts to. I personally have always added this light return spring when using Lokar.

2. Transmission kickdown throw. You need to ensure that the throw is correct on the kickdown lever. The most recent install I did (Edelbrock carb, 727 transmission) the kickdown lever was the shortest style (fyi there are several styles of different lengths). Even though it was the shortest lever it was still too long for the Edelbrock carb. With the kickdown lever all the way back at WOT, with foot off the gas, it wouldn't release the lever enough, so the shift points were VERY late. I slowly adjusted the cable back little by little, and by the time I got somewhat reasonable shift points, the car would no longer kick-down when I floored it. I had to remove the lever and drill a hole closer to the bracket mounting point (there was actually already a small hole there) to allow for greater throw.

Instead of drilling a hole you can purchase the correct kickdown lever from A&A Transmission.

On the Lokar kick down linkage, I replaced the "L" bracket that bolts on the tranny, with one I made from L shaped angle iron. I found the Lokar bracket was to thin, and flexed, and bent.
