before I turn this thing into a stroker could some one decode it and tell me what it came out of? Or if it original to someone's matching number car I could trade it.
Block vin dw34023370005

That not the VIN. That is the assembly plant info. If there is a VIN it would be at the rear of the motor along the top edge where the block meets the transmission housing.

Okay I will post it. Would you know what this engine is out of yet?

D= 1968
W= Windsor Canada
340 = cu. in.
2337=2529-2337= 192 day of 1968 (production date)
0005 = 5th engine produced that date

There were a lot of blocks cast on that date, and they could only be in a 68 Barracuda or Dart GTS.

This engine is not the original engine for my car. I came with the purchase. I figured it is probably out of some 1968 car just not sure what body.

I thought with a build date of sometime in July 68, it might be possible for 69.
Build date and casting date are over a year apart?
That is a big gap. Not sure on start date of 69 production but it has to be very close.

Side of the block says June 19 1967
That's the same day my 340 block was made. I believe there was just one run before that, and only by a few days. At least according to what I've found when I looked into it.

I also have a 68 340 that was cast June 67, have to double check the day. It has a VIN stamped on bell housing rail, was not a match for my 68 GTS.

I also have a 68 GTS 340 with 6/67 cast date and a VIN on the bellhousing that is not correct for my car. It looks like it is 8B837808.

It would be neat to reunite the motor I have with it's original car. To me, it's just another engine. But I've always figured there was a reason they were separated, and probably not a good one.

I was thinking the same thing. My dad had a 69 chevelle yenko before my brother was born, he sold the car after the guy that bought rolled it and junked it. The junk yard pulled the engine and crushed it.
