Went to fire up the cuda this morning and nothing.. usually blasts right off.
Checked for fuel squirting, had fuel. Hooked up timing light and cranked.
No flashing light. Put on a mopar orange box and car fired up. Anyways when I rewired the car I made no provision for a ballast. MSD time or ??

How are you using the car? Hot street/track use a couple of times a year? I like the 6AL so you have a rev limiter, and you can run almost whatever coil you want (the compatibiltiy list is pretty long!). If you had to replace it, you could visit a Pep Boys/Auto Zone/O'reallys and get another one.

Unless, you just want to get the FBO box replaced--how long did it last, by the way??? And where does your charging system usually run while the engine is running?

David

charging system is good. 14.3 at idle and all the way up to 5500 rpm. every wire is brand new. 1500 miles on fob box

send it back. Im sure they would like to see WTH happened to it. Use the generic box and tell us if there is a difference. Id go Mallory before MSD (even though they are the same company now!) I had 2 MSD6 boxes fail on me. I got a 40 year old Mallory Hyfire V that still works.

Why not let TrailBeast hook you up with one of his recurved stock Mopar distributors? Much more reasonable and will last a lot longer.

for pishta:------ I`ve had 4 MSD`s and none of them have failed.

This... and parts are available, at any parts store.... for a decent price...

Personally over boxes. Have had two mopar orange boxes let go and one msd 6al( this one really pissed me off as it resulted in a tow) on my various cars in last 2 years.
Now running setup similar to what trailbeast builds ( FBO limiter plate, lighter silver spring in place of stock slotted spring)
Just using pertronix ignitor II instead of mopar electronic setup.
So far so good on 3 SB cars.

Well it wasn't the box after all.Yesterday I gutted an orange box, and installed a 4 pin hei in it. Turned out great. but no start.
removed the plug from top of the box and hooked it up via clip leads. Fired right up, did the same with fob box, fired right up.
Just have to get a new harness for the box as the coil neg wire was broken where is bends through the plug body. Must have been making just enough
contact when I tested the box before gutting it.

Good save. I had a $700 distributor fail on me due to internal harness issue. left me high and dry...twice.
