I am on the hunt for a Miller C-4044 bearing puller so I can remove the bearing housing and replace a bad turn signal switch and cancel cam on a 68 Dart GT. It doesn't look like they are made any more or there is another available option and my Dad and I are having a heck of a time pulling that housing without it. Anyone have any thoughts on where I can buy one or an alternative method to removing the upper bearing housing? Thanks.

I was able to get the snap ring out but the housing wont budge. I imagine it has been in place since 1968 and has effectively attached itself to the shaft. When I saw the articles about the bearing puller, I assumed others had experienced the problem. We tried everything we were willing to do without risking damaging the parts and no luck. In the event we can't fund one, our next step is to try and build our own.

There are pics of a homemade puller in a thread here somewhere. I have never needed one. The snap ring generates burrs at that groove. I pull the shaft/groove up above the race a hair then use a small file and emory cloth to clean the shaft. Then the bearing slides right off.
I have found that bearing very crusty, even balls fell out, and had to replace it too. Good luck with it.

I have restored 2 columns in last 2 years and didnt need a puller. It may just be stuck a bit.
But then again my columns were out of the car.

Looks like top is home made and bottom is the real tool.

No need to pull anything off past the three screws that hold the switch in (and the handle/screw). Pull the individual connectors out of the plastic house and pull it out...

Just got the replacement and realized that we might be able to do this in exactly the way you describe. The picture made it look like the molex was all connected but the wires come loose so we should be able to thread them back. My dad seems to think he removed two nuts that had bolts behind that housing so we will have to see. Thank you all for your suggestions and guidance. I have a feeling I am going to be spending some time on this forum. Appreciate the comraderie!

Even if you need the tool, it is so simplistic a chimp could make one.

The steel cover behind the plastic cover (that attaches to the dash) comes off with two screws.

Lock plate tool, most auto supply houses carry something. Depresses lock plate so you can remove/install snap ring. But the easies by far is to thread wires down the column. Use existing wires to pull a drawstring.used a mallet to knock housing loose.

Thank you all very much. We were able to fabricate what we needed, replaced the entire turn signal switch and I have officially stopped using arm signals! Thanks again. On to the next project...
