I currently have a 8 3/4 posi rearend with 4:11 gears in my 70 dart. I purchased a new rearend with 3:23's in it to do a swap. What is a fair price to sell my old, good working condition 4:11 posi rearend for? Axles not included.

What is your casting number?
Makes a difference.
Mike.

Depends on a couple things.
741,742,489
Auburn or clutch type suregrip
Do you want to sell it right away or hang onto it for a couple years.

What's an 8.75 "posi"? Is that some rare GM axle?

Now Chrysler corp did make a 8.75 with a "sure-grip" center section.but not a posi

Yes I'm gonna be that guy

Why are you ditching the 4.11's? That's the second best street gear.

Anyway, you have to look on the drivers side of the third member. There will be a casting number there. The last three digits is what counts.

As for the sure grip (I don't want one of the coffee crew kicking my can over the "posi" nomenclature) the quick way to tell what you have is to look at the diff and count the ends of the cross pins. 2 cross pin ends and it's the cheap unit. 4 cross pin ends and it's the good unit.

ditching the 4:11s because i want decent fuel mileage and will be doing a lot of highway driving.

Saying you have an 8 3/4 posi is kind of like saying you have a 350 magnum in your vette or a 318 vortec in your dart or a powerstroke 5.9 deisel in your dodge truck....... you get the idea. If it is a Chrysler rear end it is a sure grip.

When you are done swapping the gears, take a couple pictures and post them. We can tell by looking. I had 4.10's for about a month, it was about all I could take.

yeah they are a pain in the *** man, you let off the gas and the car is like BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and slows way the hell down. Like i swear to god you can feel the gas being guzzled LOL. Im all for having a fast car with alot of giddy up and go, but if it gets such **** gas mileage i cant afford to ever drive it then its not doing me any good. I wanna get like at least 18mpg.

If you were a real hotrodder, you'd keep the 4.10s and ditch the slushbox for a fourspeed...problem solved

But if you insist...4.11s with the cone style sure grip would sell in a day for 400
Clutch style and casting can add to that

Good fuel economy is cool, but I never have cared with my muscle cars .
I like low gears !!
Get an overdrive or gear vendor and have the best of both worlds !!

All ski-doos are snowmobiles, not all snowmobiles are ski-doos.

Every time i see posi on this forum i wait for the lecture. Its great!
Good luck with your choice. And the pending sale.

Should be a law where if you use the term "posi" to talk about your chrysler axle, that you have to forfeit your car to the person who corrects you and be banned from owning a mopar in the future :rofl:

3.23 is a great gear.. find out what case you have. easy enough.. then take a pic of the sure grip unit..

have seen 4.10 sure grips going for good money..

If you don't know what you have, how can we help with a price?? Question asked a bit too soon! So, I would do the swap, then pic the 4:10 center so we can see what's in there, then value it by what it is, not what it might be!

Gettin this back on subject.

A sure grip is worth more than a posi.

he he.

Here's where to find the casting number.

If you don't need the cash, store them away. You never know what the future with your car will be. Sorry, that's the parts hoarder in me coming out!
