I have always loved cars old and new but something about the Mopar guys around me really got me curious. So I jumped in a couple a weeks ago and bought my first fixer upper lol. I bought a 1971 Plymouth Scamp that is in about a million pieces, but a complete car.

I had no idea what I was getting into and I'm not regretting it just a bit overwhelmed with the amount of things that I need to buy. "with any project I know this is how it is" I have 3k set aside for things but I can buy a few things and that money is gone haha.

Any words of encouragement from you guys or suggestions at all? hahahaha

List of things to get done:
1. Pull /6 and transmission "Done"
2. Buy roof skin and have it put on 1k in labor at local car resto garage.
3. Buy running 318 and transmission
4. Buy motor mounts for new engine
5. Install engine and transmission
6. Buy and install new gas tank and fuel lines
7. Exhaust
8. Front end disc brake conversion kit

That's about as far as my brain will let me think haha.

Hello from Minnesota. At least you know what yoir up against, putting those pieces back together. First off, get a Factory Service Manual (FSM), that will be an invaluable tool. You can download them for free, sorry the link slips my mind, someone will chime in. Have patience, and after this you'll be able to build any car!

I guess I should mention my best friend is a huge mopar guy and he is pretty much leading the way with his knowledge. I just have to buy the parts and help him put it together haha.

Pay attention, it's mostly easy stuff with these old cars, but the more you know, the better off you'll be down there road. Get that FSM, all owners should have one, I think. I use mine more than I ever thought I would, but I also never thought I'd tear down and rebuild my car, just thought I'd "fix" some parts! Keep us posted, start a restoration thread on the car so we an follow along.

That's a great idea. I'm going to get a bit more to it done so I have something to start with and more pictures. I appreciate it.

She is completely taken apart. The roof is pretty much gone and the passenger floor board needs patched but the rest of the car is rust free. Kind of amazing, everyone that sees it is surprised. She is under a carport under a tarp at the moment. All parts are in my garage.

Slow and steady helmsman!! I agree with the above, pay attention to every detail, and soak up as much knowledge from your mentor as possible! When you're done, you will have your own wealth of knowledge about your car, and will help immensely when it comes to maintenance, and repair and replacement of parts!

Have a clear plan and stick to it!
Do as many subassemblies as you can and stash them away done and ready to install! Do them in your downtime with some of the bigger stuff, and be prepared by ordering parts early so you have them on hand! Never know when the wife is gonna go to bed early, and you can slip in an hour or so on something!

A grand to replace the roof? Have someone show you how to do it, and then do it. body shop or you can blend the lines afterwords. Take pics and entertain us !
