White letters out or in!?

-
Post a pic of the car, that'll make an easier decision

I agree. Was just going to type that.

Our dart has body color steelies with red line dog dishes. When we bought it the white letters were out. Looked good we thought. Then we swapped them to black wall out and realized that the black wall was much tougher looking.

if you have chrome reverse wheels and baby moon hub caps, don't need tires, can run on rims,,,,lol,,,i know i just pissed off a bunch of sbp mopar people, that was only mag wheel in 1970 for sbp. been there, have the tshirt as well as old photos to see the moons

If the car could have been bought new with RWL tires, then use them. If it is older than '70 use blackwalls or whitewalls. Red lines are good for '66-'69 too. (those years are very approximate)

here are a few looks of ours with white letters and without.. the ugly *** rally wheels were just a go between waiting for my 15x7 steelies...

i think its tougher looking with the black walls.. more bare bones all business look to me..

I vote for "IN"

I recently grappled wit this and ended up going with letters out...they look fine but I came across a surprisingly cool suspension-modded first gen T-Bird (yeah, I know...trust me, it was tasteful and sharp_) that was running some minilite style wheels...This guy had the good sense to mount the letters in and looked sharp as hell.

Sometimes doing something different from everyone else is all that it takes to make your car look fresh and unique.

I regret having the letters out. :D

What's the point of buying white letter tires? To hide the white letters? Now, how stupid does that sound? lol
Well, with the limited amount of 15 and 14 inch tires, you take what's out there, whether you want white letters out, or not. I prefer black walls out. Especially with aftermarket wheels. It makes the car look too busy.

When I bought my 1970 Valiant & looked at the broadcast sheet I was very happy to see it was coded for black sidewall tires.

I vote for the 3 inch white wall. lol for a serious street/strip brawler, it has to be mickey T's black side wall.
I never could keep the letters off the curb.

I'll try to get a picture of up looking at it straight broadside tomorrow. Damn I just don't know lol

I don't believe white letter tires came out till late 60's. I know in 65 the Formula S had blue line tires. If the year you have didn't come out with them, I would rather not use them. On the flip side, I think white letter tires look great.

Both cars have factory steel wheels, powdercoated gloss black.
Gold Dart....15"× 7"
Orange Dart...14"× 5.5"
The "caps" are known as dog dish caps.

i don't know.. those two cars above with white letters and black steelies look to be a perfect example of why you should go black wall out to me..

1969. If you look at Dodge sales brochures, for example, in '68 they show red line tires and whitewall tires. There are no white letter tires shown in the '68 sales brochures. In '69 a few cars are shown with Goodyear Polyglas white letter tires, but some still have red lines and whitewalls.

Do 2 of each, mount them on each side and take a look, then jus swap the 2 you don't like and have them all balanced at once!! It's the old school mock up way of deciding!!!
