If you can find a donor car for discs and rear end (necessitates changing wheels to bbp) you're miles ahead. Stiffer torsion bars up front with a sway bar and leaf springs in the rear along with shock (several good manufacturers, dont skimp on shocks) should make it handle and stop decent. Doing a similar thing with my 69 notch. 73 swinger provided discs, rear, V8 and transmission. 14 or 15 inch bbp wheels and tires are fairly reasonably priced.
