Just installed a new Centerforce dual friction clutch. 72 Demon 440 4 speed 3.91 28-11.5 ET Streets. Center force recommends 450-500 miles before hard throttle. I have around 200 miles on it so far. I have heard mixed opinions so far on the break in process for miles. What have you experienced guys done and have to say?

I did the 500 mile as recommended. I spoke with centerforce and the tech told me it was for heat cycles. After 500 I beat on it and never had issues.

You want to give every piece in the system a little light duty wear to knock down high spots, mate components, and guarantee maximum surface to surface contact.

From an oem standpoint, the gentle break in cycle also allows things that aren't right to grenade gently as opposed to at 8k rpm.

push the clutch in to the floor... push the gas pedal to the floor wait until the oil light starts to flicker then side step the clutch....do it 3 times . I bet something will break in or out . :poke: lol

I put maybe 30 easy miles on mine, then started beating on it. No burned clutch smell, no slippage, all is well... 383, 4.56 gear, McLeod super street pro clutch

This should be obvious, but that 500 miles is in-town driving where you're actually using the clutch :poke: Driving 8 hours on the Interstate isn't going to break it in... believe me there is no instruction so simple that someone can't screw it up!

A lotta car aren't plated, and only see the strip.. A coupla test burn-outs in the parking lot, then to the line.

Haven't got, or heard any complaints.. jmo..

This. A couple of heat cycles, a few burnouts and then have at it.

Thanks! I have roughly 250 miles on it. Yesterday I let it eat and holy crap what a difference from the old clutch. Had stuff on the dash and it all landed on the seat. LOL. Cant wait to hit the track in two weeks. Last chance for the year to do so.

What's ur setup?

Mild 440 9.5-1
Source heads out of the box
Torker intake
850 DP Holley
Comp XE-274H cam .488/.491 274/286
TTI 1 3/4 headers
2.5" true duals with Dynomax race bullet mufflers dumped at the rearend
4 speed with a Centerforce dual friction clutch
8 3/4 3.91
28-11.5 ET Streets

Before the clutch swap it has ran a best 1/4 mile of 13.45@100 and a 13.47@103.
That was with the cheap McLeod clutch that was slipping bad. I am hoping for high 12s next time out.
