How often do you change your oil?
A lot of our classics don't get a many miles in a season and then get stored.

I seem to do it when Im bored....Id say yearly. Oils dont go bad but they do get water in the pan from various sources ie. condensation and as a byproduct of combustion past the rings. Usually a good 20 minute idle will get oils up to temp so the moisture is 'bloiled' out.

if you only put 900 or 1000 miles per season would you wait 2 or 3 years before changing it?
And if it's not dirty just go for long drive before it gets stored?

Once a year in the spring. I rarely put 3000 miles on.

Once a year in the fall for cars that are not regularly driven. The old oil builds up water and acids. You dont want it sitting in your engine all winter.......

My regular daily drivers..... I shoot for every 3000 to 5000 km.

I knew we could discuss the spring or fall option but in the fall makes good sense.

LOL...... opinions eh!
Probably the best bet is to get it warmed up good and change it in the fall. I see some boat guys change theirs again in the spring after a few hours of use.

2 times a year on both classic cars
no matter how many miles
mostly under 3 anyway

If it leaks, it just gets topped off and a filter every 6k..lol

Realy though...every 6k, with 2 filter changes along the way...depends on the you're using.

About every 3k miles. Usually works out to be at least 2 to 3 times a year based on mileage.

What's storage? :poke:

i change my oil 2x a season usually in April and then again in late Aug or early Sept which is the high mileage car show months until I put her away in late Oct..I average anywhere from 800 to 1000 miles per season and use Conventional 10W40 oil.

o.ik. Don...if it looks like honey i'm happy...i change it when it 's dirty...sometimes 2 or 3 years. My daily drivers don't last that long though.
Really just wondered what everyone else does....

The oil's color is my 'trigger'.

The 318 in my daily driven Dart uses quite a bit of oil because of worn valveseals, but I'm also running a thin oil.
So I only replenish it once a while with a pint of new oil.
As long as the oil maintains its dark brown semi-transparent color this way, I see no reason to change it.

My other (all garaged) cars hardly see any roadtime so the oil in their engines can be in there for a good number of years.

I run synthetic in everything.

Once a year is way more than enough for my dart. My daily gets changed every 10,000. Once has 257,000 and the other has 169,000. People get way too carried away with oil changes especially if you run synthetic. BMW changes the oil at around 15k intervals.

It's about time for an oil change as a matter of fact...

I'm running full synthetic installed 1000 miles after breakin. With my zinc additive I will change it once a year unless I get close to ten K.
