Irma, getting nervous

-
Irma is the strongest Atlantic hurricane in recorded history !
It will impact all of the State and the east coast .
NOW is the time to get out ! Head northwest about 800 miles !

Holy cow. Hang on down there folks. Or better yet, hit the trail. I can't even imagine having this come to my home.

Roger that. If you are in the path of this storm, don't screw around. Typical residential construction of wood framing and brick veneer will not withstand sustained winds approaching 200 MPH (same wind speed as an F4 tornado).

Get out whilst you can before fuel supplies are hard to find and roads are clogged with people making a run for it. Once you are above the Florida panhandle, get on I-10 or another highway that will take you as far West or Northwest as you can get.

This storm will move North across many states and possibly up into Newfoundland before its done. North and East side of these storms are the 'dirty side' having the most wind and rain......

HURRICANE IRMA

Projected path of the storm as of today. If it does take this turn North, Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas will take a hard hit. Bear in mind that this storm is nearly 2,000 miles wide. The 'cone of uncertainty' indicated on this graph reflects where NOAA's computer model projects the eye or center of this storm to track. Other models shift the center farther West and have the eye passing anywhere from directly through Miami to hugging the West coast of Florida rather then the East coast. Time will tell.

If the storm takes the projected course, we should be spared a repeat of Hurricane Harvey and the flooding it brought our way here in Texas. We will just have to watch this one carefully and make our decisions based upon the best information available, should it come close enough to us to be a concern.

Of the 3 hurricanes headed this way just now...... Katia will make landfall in Mexico. Irma will hit the US. Hard. Jose is projected to turn North before reaching the US. We will see on that one.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected by this storm,

Harry and Family

I'm in St Helena Isl. just 15 miles from Beaufort S.C. right on the coast, gonna have to wait a couple more days to find out just what to do, but the Dart and cat are definitely coming along with the Wife and me.

Wow, hope the best for u. Uncontrollable fires in 5-6 states, 2nd "big"hurricane about to hit, the U.S/ is getting it!---------Their will be famines and pestilences in divers places, but the end is not yet.

I think a Mopar prayer "for the road" is in order:

Our Lady Of Blessed Acceleration "Don't Fail Me Now!!"

Good luck to all and be safe.

Mother Nature sure is a bit ticked off. Harvey, Irma, the new ones that have formed. Over a million acres have burned in Montana. All the fires in BC. Local news is stating that Montana will probably burn until the snow flies.
Stay safe....

Here in SC Lowcountry I cannot imagine the governor not calling for evacuation. I am headed to Atlanta Saturday in my Fury and hope the roads back to my place won't be closed due to water and debris, and not to have a prolonged power outage.

In SW Miami, closing everything up. Have food, water, gas, booze and will close the shutters and hope for the best. My neighborhood was hit by Andrew. Most houses only suffered superficial damage, some unscathed. We are well outside of the surge and flood area so my only concern is wind strength. But with concrete block construction, shutters and a roof that has been braced as per post Andrew code, I think we'll be fine. Power will go out. That's a given. And then it will just be hot and uncomfortable. Stay safe out there folks. Little late to bug out IMO. You might get caught in the middle of the storm, out of gas on the side of a highway with your *** hanging in the wind.

I'm an hour north of Tampa, and my wife flew up north to see her sick mother. So I have to get everything ready. Papers, 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 pistols, every vehicle in a garage, cover windows, etc. If I were in Southeast Florida, I would run like hell!

I'm in west Broward County. The women really take it hard. They are afraid. We have hurricane windows on most of the house. I put up panels on the rest. Hoping for the best. I told my wife and kids that I'm going to put on my motorcycle helmet and run from room to room if I have to (ha,ha)

You are going to video the helmet part?

Its been a shitty summer here but Im not bitching with what the coastal states and provinces deal with. Be safe all. Positive thoughts and prayers.

Best of luck! I would have got out. If south FL sees half of what this storm has shown it has, it is nothing but bad.

Yup, it's been a wild summer for sure. A couple years back we had so much rain up here we couldn't get the lawn cut. Now, we don't have to cut it at all. We water and hope it stays kinda green. B.C. and Montana are the same. Dry as can possibly be. Any form of friction could start a fire. Here in Alberta they have shut down access to the mountains in the south and west of the province. No traffic will reduce the chance of human error. And all the while the rain and hurricanes are rampant in the southern states. Mother nature is on a vengeance run and she's not giving breaks to anyone. I don't very often say I'm done with summer.........but I've had enough already. Bring on the fall and winter. We need snow!

What's happening in Montana is a damn shame. Between Montana, the fire in Oregon started by a dumbass kid with fireworks, the BC fires and if I heard right earlier the 100 fires burning here in Washington state enough is enough...bring on the fall rains PLEASE. We are on a septic system. Our drain field area is knee deep and green...terrified of starting a fire so mowing it will have to wait. Every night when I light our Big Green Egg, which uses wood charcoal, I drag the pressurized garden hose over and soak the surrounding area...

Haven't checked lately, when is Irma making landfall fall? Those 2 storms behind it still gaining size/strength?

"Hurricane Irma weakened to a category 4 storm but remains dangerous. The storm is poised to bring hurricane conditions to the Florida Keys & South Florida Saturday night Hurricane warnings are in effect for southern Florida while hurricane watches are under effect into central Florida."

My very well armed neighbors said they would keep an eye on our property so we decided to head north.
So we left early yesterday morning. Took I-95 north. Nothing but bright red tail lights all day and well into the evening. Went 440 miles in 14 hours. Today was another day of red tail lights. Made it another 520 miles in 13 hours today. Thought we would have dropped the in-laws off in Cleveland at the sister-in-laws. Instead we are in Parkersberg, WV. Hopefully this part of the trip will be over tomorrow.
I wonder how long it will take to get home next weekend?

If you are anywhere west of I75 through Fl. I would be very concerned! The east coast will be mostly spared. It keeps moving west IMO, which hurts central FL cause it will stay strong as long as the eye stays towards the gulf. Jose is slightly pushing it that way!

Roger that! Projected track of storm has been revised a bit West of earlier predictions. Looks to be right along West coast of Florida according to latest update.

Best regards,

Harry

We got home from Myrtle Beach, SC around 8:30 this morning. We left our camper at 3:30 am to get home before traffic got heavy, and headed up 22 to 501 towards Florence. We saw maybe 10 cars along that part. Then we headed south on I-95 for 10 miles or so to catch I-20 towards Columbia. In those 10 miles, at 4:30 in the morning, I bet we passed 2500 to 3000 cars headed north on 95! I was expecting a lot of westbound traffic on I-26 from Columbia to Asheville...but there really wasn't that much. There were a LOT of FL and GA tags, and it was kind of heart breaking. I passed more than one old beat up car with gas jugs strapped to the top, and piled full of people/kids. God love em, and keep em safe! :(

Looks like were right in the path of it, and its now a cat 5. Were gonna get something from it, as well as everyone in its path. Wont know how bad until later in the week, but its been tracking pretty straight so far. We've been through some storms in the past, but nothing this bad. Thinking about leaving if we feel the need, but gotta find storage for two Mopars. Could use some positive thoughts.

Hope it turned out ok for you. Let us know as soon as you can.....

Without power in my area of Miami but everything is slowly returning to normal. We dodged a bullet. Hope you guys elsewhere fared well.
