Looking for ideas to mount my Sun Tach - car has column shift automatic- rather not drill any holes in dash- Thought I had an idea to use existing screws holding column lower cover on left side- Than realized I couldn't pull emergency brake out.....
Car has only 16000 miles on it and dash is perfect...
Any ideas? Pict would help

I mount my Sun Tachs on the dash, on left side by the A pillar. I use "double sided 3-M body tape". Take the half circle mounting piece, and weld it to the flat bottom piece, that gives you a flat surface to mount on dash, clean, and paint it up nice, and install. No holes in dash, and can be removed, with body tools.

i mounted mine to the steering column
just dont mount it too far forward, or it will move as you shift

Not sure where you mean on steering column? Is it clamped on? Can you fire me a pict? thanks for taking the time to help

A member was making a plate that slipped under the dash pad, pretty slick no holes needed, forgot who it was.

I made a bracket that is attached by the lower A-Pillar trim screw (I used a longer screw) and mounted it from the side.
I looks pretty trick , is out of the way but at eye level and I didnt have to hack any thing up. And the wiring is hidden .

I will try to remember to take a pic when I get home.

This is how mine is

On my old '69 340 Swinger back in the early '70s I mounted my tach at the top of the A-pillar using a couple of the shoulder belt buckle attaching plate screw holes.
Sorry, no pics.
The only problem was the one time I got pulled over with the police officer claiming it obstructed my vision (it didn't).
It was just a no-fine "fix-it" ticket. So before I went to the local police department to get the ticket cleared, I wired in a quick-release plug into the wiring. After getting the ticket cleared I pulled out of the police station parking lot, took the tach out of the glove compartment, plugged it in and put it back up on the attaching plate.
It was in a great location and extremely visable.

yup, mine was one with a shift color (ripped that off when i installed a ratchet shifter)

not even sure if there is one or two screws there, its been on for so long

Really like the one from ACME, I am sure there is a member on here that could copy and make the same thing for less than half the cost. I don't have any sheet metal experience but if I did I would be making these for the members that needed them including me. $65 is pure greed in my book, if you if you make it inexpensive they will buy. Just like if you build it, they will come.

Here's a picture showing my Schumacher mount. Not a very good one at that, but it's identical to the one posted in the link above...

I'd give the build quality a 10/10. Slight vibration at idle, but goes away. Strong enough for my 5" monster.

Here is what I ended up with- drilled a single hole- will be out of sight unless you lay on floor
Yea it blocks the a/c a little but ... When I p;aced hole I didn't allow for the plastic nut and wiring on the back of the tach...duh- Will be difficult to remove either a/c or tach in future

I didn't want to mess with dash pad or dash bezel- couple places I tired were either blocked by stock steering wheel when driving straight or emergency brake was hard to pull

Did the cop claim to "smell Marijuana" and search your vehicckle?

On one car I had, I just stuck some colored dots on the speedometer at the appropriate mph markers.
On another one, I made a strap-bracket from aluminum flat-stock, about 1.75 wide and formed it like the dash pad, a lil loose. It hooked under the back and then a short flap folded over the front. I rounded all the edges, and mounted the little ST-II at a slight angle to the driver, with flat-head screws, countersunk, from the bottom. Now,this bracket can slide sideways anywhere on the pad, So,most of the time it is off to the right somewhere, but on Friday night, it's front and center. And it comes off in about 5 seconds.

I think I mightof wrapped it with hockey-tape, to stop the glare, atta later date.

Nope, I think he may have been more interested in the red satin and black lace garter that was around the tach. Hey, that was cool back in early '70s. You took the garter off of your girlfriends/wifes leg and put it around the face of the tach.
