Hi guys, I have a 1972 duster twister witha a 3 speed. Did A bodies come with a console if they were manual? I was talking to a guy that said they didn't, just trying to make sure. Thank you!

Yes, you could absolutely get some of the A-bodies with a manual transmission and a console.

That said, it was only for a specific range of years. I don’t think you could get a manual console in ‘72, but I may be wrong about that. I know they weren’t available for the whole A-body run.

If your question is, "Did A Bodies come with consoles?", the answer is YES. Thousands, if not tens of thousands of A Bodies were sold over the years with consoles.
If your question is, "Did 1972 3 speed Duster A Bodies come with consoles?", that is an entirely different question.
The way the question is asked, it could go either way.

don't know about your particular year, but yes there is a manual (4spd) console. they are hard to find, and so they can run some money.

I think I have the right info, courtesy Rainy Day Auto. So, manual consoles were only '66-'69. 70+ factory cars wouldn't have had a manual trans and a console, although the auto consoles were still available. Both of my '71 GT's are auto console cars from the factory.

So, no, a '72 Duster would not have been available from the factory with a manual trans and a console.

They were available from 66 to 69 with 69 being the only year as woodgrain......they were an extra cost option on all 4 speed cars. The GTS, formula S and certain other cars came with bucket seats as standard equipment, but even on a GTS or other with buckets, if the original buyer did not pay the extra charge for the console then car was delivered with a non console shifter handle and nothing between the buckets.

The 4 speed console was not available after 70 from the factory however they remained available through the hustle stuff catalog. So someone could buy one over the counter at a dodge dealer and have the dealer install it.

Right, the 4-speed console ended in 1969 and no 3-speed cars ever came with a console.

Well.....

No A-body 3 speeds were available with a console & none for 4-speed cars after the '69 model year as Rainy pointed out.

But you could get consoles with the three speed in B & E bodies from '70 up.

and..... You can convert any auto console to 4-speed by using the 4-speed top plates. To do so you have to also go with the hurst shifter. If you want to use the inland shifter, you will have to cut the driver side of the console to clear it. As well, a lot of the 70 and up consoles came already cut for the manual shifter even though they were installed in auto equipped cars. I have personally done this conversion and it works perfectly.

Well I have owned probably 100 automatic console 67-69 A-Body's and have never seen an automatic console cut for a 4-speed. Yes ALL the consoles have a small opening in them on the drivers side but the 4-speed is MUCH larger and had a cardboard/urethane coated housing around that area that screwed to the console and a larger piece of carpet was then applied to the entire bottom of the console. I currently have 3 console 4-speed A-body's hanging around the house...

Yup, you are correct. I should have read my comment before I posted it..my bad. What I should have said is that I've seen 4-speed consoles with automatic top plates in later model a-bodies. In particular, a white one with a cardboard cover on the driver side. This particular car had the

One of the other members on here has seen the same thing as me. Wonder if it is a Canadian thing as he is from Canada as well.

As a side note - over the last ten years or so I have come across 4 or 5 four speed console bases installed from the factory in 75 and 76 auto cars with auto top plates. They had flat cardboard covering the side cut out, with carpet glued onto it. I kind of suspect the factory had a lot of extra 4 speed console bases and used them up in auto cars. Watch for them, they show up sometimes on ebay and craigslist etc and the sellers don't even know the console is a four speed base

No consoles for '75 or '76 model year A-body manual transmissions.

So possible vendor issue using old mold tooling? But having manual consoles left over into '75 &'76 from '69 would be a real surprise.

Check them for date codes.

4spd or auto, never cared for them. too bulky, heavy. I put an e-body console in my duster. It fit, looked great, and I got the slap-stick shifter to boot.

I had a space Duster, 1973, 318-3spd, no console.

I like carpet between the seats and the shifter w a boot and chrome finish ring. Looks clean, console looks kinda cool but seems more like an expensive crap collector.

Anything you can put something into is now a crap collector.
