Yes ALL the consoles have a small opening in them on the drivers side but the 4-speed is MUCH larger and had a cardboard/urethane coated housing around that area that screwed to the console and a larger piece of carpet was then applied to the entire bottom of the console. Yup, you are correct. I should have read my comment before I posted it..my bad. What I should have said is that I've seen 4-speed consoles with automatic top plates in later model a-bodies. In particular, a white one with a cardboard cover on the driver side. This particular car had the
