71 Dart trunk emblem

I removed the emblem on my 71 Dart trunk lid. It is a push pin type of emblem. Had little plastic pieces on the pins to hold it tight in the holes. When I popped off the emblem one plastic piece broke and the other went on the garage floor somewhere. Is there any tricks to get this back on tight?

I tried putting a little tape on the pins and pushing the emblem back in, but no luck.
 
Many years ago, I used some non-permanent gasket sealer (so it was supposedly still pliable when dry) on the pins and let it squish down to the base of the pin/emblem. Placed a piece of cardboard over the emblem and gently used a plastic wood clamp until dry. I can't remember if there was any access from inside as well but I keep thinking I got a dab on the pin where it came through as well. After that, I never had a need to take it off and it was on there for years until I sold it. GL.
