My 70 dart went 12.8@105 with unknown cam, stock block and heads, 670 street avenger, TRI step headers, 904 trans with stock slant six converter and 3:55 with locker and slicks.

I have a 750 double pumper, 3000 stall converter, and I'm getting EQ heads. What would be a good cam choice. Thanks

That is a loaded question not knowing what cam is in the engine now. Heck, it may have a Purple Shaft in it already. (or bigger)

Not that that price!! Custom is way to go for about 50 more than a shelf grind. But youll need to know about every parameter of your car. the more you provide, the more honed the cam will be to provide what you want. they are so tuneable that it may provide peak hp like a motor build off contest motor that will suck on the street or a broad torque base that will kill it on the street but may not be track worthy. Its really a tough one to answer with a part number alone.

Heck, we don't even know what engine is in it!!

Ok, your at 12.8's already with good speed of 105 mph. You are already adding EQ heads, which will gain over stock heads. Then, your adding a stall converter (I hope it's a good one, they cost $$). Then your putting more cfm's on top. I think your at low 12's with just the heads and converter, IF you bought a good converter. The heads should put your speed up, and at 106-107 mph you should be lower 12's with a good converter. I don't think a cam swap is necessary

A question if I may?
Do you drive that on the street with the powertrax locker in it, and how does it act in your opinion.
I have been thinking for quite some time that I might put one in a 8.25, and my car is pure driver (no racing) but I do drive it in the rain and snow.
I am very familiar with steering with the rear end.
Thank you.

Thank you for the replies. I forgot to mention it's a 360 magnum engine. So the flat tappet cam is a no.

The powertrax locker is not too bad it does take some getting used to but I only drive the car in nice weather.
I do drive the car in the street whenever I can and on the highway so I'm not going for more gear for now, and I don't want to carve up the trans tunnel for an overdrive trans.

I ran a best of 7.65 in the 1/8th with a bone stock 5.9, EQ heads, Air Gap, 770 Holley Street Avenger, 4.30 gears, 9.5" PTC and a regrind cam from Oregon camshaft.

I guess I'll just do the heads and converter and see what happens. I just didn't want to tear apart the engine more than once, if I change the cam.

No camshaft on the planet is going to cut almost a full second off. No way, no how.

Your question should be "what complete combo would put me in the low 12s", because that's what it's going to take.

On a side note what's a good head gasket to get. Seems to be alot of choices.

Thanks

Nitrous. Done. But, seriously, good convertor will make or break it. Maybe a deeper gear as well?
